Hi, I was urged to take nortriptyline as an alternative to amitriptyline which I was using off and on for sleep.
Nortriptyline feels like its controling my mind.
I have been feeling very off, and much more depressed / emotional than usual.
This is not for me.

If it's any consolation to you, it was one of those meds which made me smile as I flushed the remainder of the bottle down the toilet.

I'm sorry to hear that. How many consecutive days did you take nortriptyline for before discontinuing it? What dosage did you reach? How soon after beginning treatment did the cognitive side effects emerge? If you believe that TCA offers you a chance to respond favorably, trimipramine might be a good fit.

Yeah, the "truth" according to webmd. I disagree with many of their "points".

Never taken nortriptyline. My experience with amitriptyline was that I could only smile when it had been completely excreted from my system.

Just as a public service announcement, doing that in some areas can polute the environment. Hopefully your pharmaacy can dispose of them properly. Google frogs on prozac. Don't mean to be critical or single you out, I know your not the only person who does this.

Nortriptyline made me totally obsessive and my thoughts got stuck. Its *starting* to come out of my system now, and I'm feeling a bit better.

> LinkadgeI read an anecdotal report of a patient taking nort for ADHD. They found instead of being all over the place they were hyperfocusing and couldn't move their mind from task to task. Is this similar to what you have experienced?

Yes, this was my experience. The drug made it difficult to shift from one task to the next. It also made my short term memory very broken.

Like that reading the phone book thing you hear about with people on amphetamine?
Or tidying up the house for 8 hours?

what dose do you use? I find it most helpful for ADHD in reducing overfocus, which seems to the the opposite of your xp. I usually use 75mg/day.

What else have you tried for sleep? Ive tried prazosin and hydroxyzine and both did a fair job. Granted my insomnia is mild compared to most.
trazodone and seroquel are a couple others that get a good amount of use for sleep.
This is the end of the thread.
