Hi
I am bipolar II and I developed social phobia. What is your experience withe Parnate for social phobia? I am on Luvox, Lithium, Valproate, Abilify, Lamictal and T4 which works for my bipolar disorder but not for the social phobia. I have a terrible tremor and I hope that it will disapear when I get rid of the Valproate. My pdoc says that the combo of Lithium and Valproate is often to worsen a Lithium tremor?!

Parnate annihilated any social anxiety/social phobia I had. Unfortunately, I had to stop it
because it threw me too much the other way (prosocial/hypomanic) and I required pretty monstrous doses for it to work at all...This is a CLEAR case of YMMV, though; most people respond to much lower doses of Parnate and don't have the problem I described.
Also, the Luvox you take is contraindicated with Parnate or any other MAOI....
Best of luck!

I was only on parnate for a very short time on a very low dose but can recall how perfectly at ease I was after just a few days. I mean, in such a short time it didn't blow social phobia out of the water, but it sure made it better enough that I could mingle and engage without feeling terrified. I thought it was going to be a stimulating med, and in some ways it was, but in terms of social ease it felt soothing to me.
Mileage varies. People respond differently. Worth a try in my opinion though. Better than other choices I can think of.

Ben, I swear I posted but it's not here.
I have a real life friend with social phobia. The phobia is my opinion because she is so reclusive and all her anxiety is triggered by social issues.
Parnate works 100% for her (when she takes it!). I have never heard her complain about agitation from it.
However, she is not someone with much free-floating anxiety. So maybe that's a
difference. It has a reputation for being stimulating. I hadn't heard about anxiety.
Best wishes.
