any sugestions?

Posted by torridcalm on May 23, 2011, at 19:52:54

I'm disappointed with the amount of anxiety I'm having. Zoloft 5 weeks, busbar 10 days, wellbutrin resumed after 2week holliday due to poopout. clonipin and temazapam prn. I am feeling better so took one day off benzo's, didn't work out. I don't have the knowedge that you all pocess and I don't always understand the infomation. What's the deal with MAOI or MAO-B. there was something that I didn't understand in a post. The root of my problem is ADHD in old days it was called minimal brain damage common in premature babys. middle aged now and catching up developmentaly, but the anxiety is crippleing me. would an MAOI be a good choice for anxiety? stimulants, SSRI's and wellbutrin are what I've been on, but wellbutrin and high dose stimulants by far out performed all the rest. BIG EVENT coming in september that I have to man, figuratively man up, through in a bit of the menopause too.

I've never tried MAOIs although I am trying to persuade my doctor to prescribe them. Like you I have been through a lot of drugs but none have really helped my anxiety and depression that much. I've tried all the SSRIS, and SNRIs, some TCAs, atypical / typical antipsychotics, anticonvulsants and various anxiolytics. At the moment I'm on Effexor, lithium and klonopin. The klonopin does seem to be helping a little.

For anxiety and neurotic depression, Nardil seems to be the gold standard and a very effective drug. Nardil is a MAOI-A drug and along with it's sibling drugs like Parnate seem to be far more effective than the MAOI-B drugs such as moclobemide.

If you are starting to run out of options I'd consider Nardil but just remember it's dietary restrictions and potental side effects.

thanks, now I see that there are classes of MAOI's. low dose klonipin fixes me up just fine but my doc will not keep me on long term. it's anxiety with me, the depression piggy backs on the anxiety. my doc is raising my concerta next month and that will lessen my anxiety but the rebound is very unpleasant

Hi torridcalm,

I don't really have suggestions, just a couple of observations. Treatment for adhd or Add can aggravate anxiety. It can be difficult to balance. Recently I've had to let go of treating add as a top priority in order to address depression and anxiety. Everyone seems to have their own priorities.

My other thought (besides welcome :D) is that this is a good place to read and ask questions.

Good luck and look forward to more posts.

I agree, I stop taking concerta when my anxiety is out of control. The 6-8 hours that the concerta is working I don't have much anxiety but the rebound is so bad that I stop concerta in tuff times. today was the first day I took the concerta with no rebound, for the past couple weeks I took the conceta every 3-4 days as a kind of test. I'm getting better. 48 hours on cymbalta 100 hours off zoloft, 11 days on busbar, oh then there is the flexiril for the past three days too.

how are you doing, I understand how your feeling were hurt by someone your seeking help from. I hope you were able to shake it off?

Hi torrid, how kind of you to remember. I don't understand what my pdoc is saying to me. I feel frustrated for getting mixed messages. He seems p*ssed that I'm on emsam, but I think it's something more that I either can't get in my head or he is having difficulty saying. Hopefully this will clear up by our next meeting.

I had horrible rebound a dysphoria from dexedrine. Maybe what I called dysphoria was really anxiety.

How is the cymbalta start up going?

rebound is hell from stimulates, It doesn't always happen to me, only if my anxiety is out of control. Maybe the cymbata is starting to work, anxiety seems to be dropping but it's so soon to know for sure.
