I saw my pdoc today, and I requested to try substituting Luvox for Paxil, as Paxil is causing me to sweat prodigiously and is probably aggravating my GI issues. It isn't working all that well anymore, either. I also was able to get him to try me on Dexedrine for my attention problems. He is a way more chill doctor than I have ever had before. I'm pretty sure he's a 9 on the Enneagram. He asks me what I want to try and lets me do it.

I was cured while taking paxil till it just simply stopped, I tried many others and did have some success with luvox, helped with both depression and anxiety, did cause drowsiness but the benefit outweighted the symptoms.

Still on luvox 50mg regular. Taken it about 11 years. At one time took 250mg and felt great but needed benzos also. Are you taking the time release or generic? Absolutely no side effects and waited for them. Can't stop the luvox tried once and didn't sleep for two weeks. And that doc added high doses of benzos. So I guess my brain likes it also. I also feel you will. Phillipa

Thanks. That gives me hope.

I am trying the generic (have to pay cash). The pdoc wanted to give me 50mg tabs, but I asked for 100mg tabs. I have not gotten by with the lowest dose of any SSRI yet, and being undermedicated sucks. I am hopeful that I'll be able to deal with the side effects, because I've never had to discontinue a med before due to sedation. The "activating" SSRIs (Prozac and Zoloft) are the ones that give me trouble. Celexa is considered sedating and that's the one I had the most success with.
I'm sure you could get off Luvox, Phillipa. You might have to do a slow taper and substitute a different med.

Tried adding low dose lexapro and now Deplin nothing so seriously thinking of upping the luvox? Either that or go totally off SSRI's. Two extremes? Or stay the same. I also get the l00mg tabs was free on the old medicaire plan new one $7 a month and that script last for two months so $3.50 a month. Not bad. Phillipa so no time release. I have some or might have thrown away time release ones.

Good luck with this. Will you let us know how it goes? I was just reading about Luvox 's unique properties.
Fingers crossed,

Phillipa,
Just a thought: try upping luvox first. Maybe easiest since you're already on it. Slowly and see. What would your pdoc think?
Hold steady with lexapro, (unless pdoc says forget it).
Would you go up to 100 Luvox? (Don't know dosing for this.)
Hugs,

The headache that I woke up with reminded me of the morning headache I get from trazodone. That was fatal to trazodone. So I hope it's either a coincidence or it passes.

Sure could up to l00 no problem but if since upped from 25mg to 50mg and body won't let off what happens at l00. l00 is 50mg am and 50mg pm. I did require more ativan at the time. Never got a headache though? Phillipa

My drug book says that you can give up to 100mg at bedtime. Above that it recommends divided doses.

I know that doses over a hundred mg need highest dose at night. Hummm as when I took it the doc gave 50/50 and then 50 am and l00 pm. I think the reson is that the half life is short. I've not heard of this before? Phillipa

My drug book (written for nurses) says to give it in one dose at bedtime unless it's more than 100mg, in which case it can either be evenly divided or the larger dose can be given at bedtime. But the aim is comfort. You're not going to die if you take it in the morning, you just might be drowsy. I'm not sure why it says not to take more than 100mg at once, but I assume comfort.

The half life is relatively short. It's shorter than Paxil, but not as short as Effexor. Paxil CR hasn't really caught on versus taking the IR once a day, but I would not try the same thing with Effexor. Luvox is borderline, but I am going to try taking it once at night.

Here's my update for day #3 of Luvox:
I woke up super-early this morning and could not get back to sleep. I've been having early-morning awakenings a lot recently, but I think it has more to do with my deteriorating mental condition than any particular med. My appetite during the day has also dropped off, although I still binge at night after taking my Remeron. All of that basically predates Luvox. I felt a little headachy and queasy after taking the Luvox last night, but this morning I woke up with no headache. There has been no apparent drop in the sweating that I attributed to Paxil so far. Either Luvox is just as bad, it's an effect of all SSRIs that I didn't notice while taking Celexa for 5 years, or it is multifactorial in origin. I suspect that Wellbutrin is contributing as much as the SSRI. I haven't had any major GI problems since switching to Luvox, so I am very hopeful that will continue. The GI problems were serious; it sent me to the ER once and I was starting to think I had Crohn's Disease, so I really hope it was Paxil.
I'm not expecting Luvox to correct the early-morning awakenings and other increasing MDD symptoms by itself, but I am hoping for reduced side effects.

Only the very first ad I took which was paxil l0mg caused an GI distress. I kept notes and stopped taking them the notes at three months. So suspect that is when it kicked in for me and felt good again. Still had a benzo though. No GI with luvox ever. I'm wondering if the prescribing info has changed since took the original Solvay luvox. Very possible? Sure hoping your distress disappears soon. Phillipa

When T took Paxil for a couple years, the GI problems never went away. I went to the ER once because I was passing bloodclots. I also have large bottles of Immodium around, just in case it really gets going.

I'm hoping that the luvox will help curb the early awakenings. Why are you doubtful?
No GI sx is a very good sign. Cymbalta about did me in with gastritis :(
Update us when you can.

>Yeah. It was horrible. I woke up early in the morning every so often with abdominal cramps and diarrhea. I was starting to think I had Crohn's disease.

The withdrawal thing. I remember when pdoc figured out that was happening to me. Short acting agents in my case, multiples.
So you slept?
