Member introductions

For all those who would like to participate this thread is for member introduction; both long time members and new. Feel free to introduce yourself and as much or little about yourself as you would like to share.

Matthew

32 years old

30 day (and counting) member of PB

currently taking Nardil (extremely helpful for me and no side effects

past experience with numerous meds (short term) and long term experience with Paxil and Lithium

Finally for anyone considering starting treatment for the first time. Everyone is different and everyone has a different level of Depression/Anxiety and other afflications, and keep in mind I am not a Dr but I would like to share my treatment chart and opinions. (note this is my personal experience from start to finish, I am not recommending anyone follow my chart, just want to show the path that lead me to getting better; this path took 15 years and knowing what I know now from my own research and experience If I had to do it again I would have followed these steps over a course of 2 years instead of the 15 years it took with Dr's).

-started with Benzo-mild but immediately helpful
-added Paxil-was a miracle pill but wore off
-switched to other SSRI's, one at a time (to many to list and continued to suffer)
-switched to NSRI-felt well for 3 months, then felt worse on this med than if I was on no med at all
-switched back to Paxil, added another NSRI (rollercoaster ride in regards to effectiveness, nothing but short term up's, and long term downs)
-added buspar (felt like an aweful, terrible high with this combination and suffered from seretonin syndrom for 2 weeks)
-Switched to Paxil and Lithium combination (felt stable, certainly did not feel well but was no longer suffering)
-Discontinued paxil (at this point provided no benefit only side effects) and continued lithium alone
-lithium alone (was stable but not well)
-added Luvox (felt better in some ways, felt worse in others
-switched to lithium and added seroquel (turned me into a zombie, very dark time in my life)
-switched to a TCA (never been so emotional in my life, I would cry at work!)
-and finally switched to an MAOI (Nardil) approaching my 4th week, all the typical syptoms created by previous med's are gone, and the relief I have so far is nothing short of a miracle.

Maybe shared to much but thought it might be helpful to others as long as it's stated every person is different, responds to medications differently, and side effects of any particular med vary from person to person; but remember in regards to side effects, when it comes to side effects of medication always consider and weight the benefits and side effects. As long as the benefits out weight the side effects you should consider it a success

I know my last post was way too long but I know everyone has different hardships so with my experience as posted I left out what I was treating:

depression (obviously treatment resistant)
and anxiety (terrible anxiety to the point that just getting through each day was a battle)

I don't feel like writing my entire story, but I have been relatively stable on Paxil 20mg + Remeron 15mg + Wellbutrin 300mg for a while. Lately, though, I've been getting sick of the Paxil side effects (particularly sweating) and the effect may be diminishing. So I am trying switching back to Zoloft, which I had a failed trial of and I still have some pills left (I don't have the patience to wait to see the doc). Zoloft was a great med except that I felt terribly agitated when taking 150mg, which I needed. I am hoping that this time around Remeron will knock out the agitation and I can stick with Zoloft.

I like to chat too, but disappointment has led to etc etc.

Anyway, my early experiences with the industry and the profession have given me reticence about trying new meds. Servier seems to suit me though. Tianeptine was OK, agomelatine is OK too, I'd love to have a bottle of dex in the back of the cupboard for things I have to do and don't want to or can't do well. I might try LDN. Gabapentin is useful in small amounts. I'd like to get off benzos. Plenty of brain fog, difficulty getting deep sleep. I am interested in herbs and alternative stuff. The DSM is an interesting (uninteresting?) cultural artifact. So they are my prejudices.

hi

i'm a technical sob.

most drugs suck, maois are good. i take nortriptyline, i mostly think about diet, and what colour works best for our shamans.

i like chatting, even though i've posted everything i have to say in the archives.

acceptance is freedom, change is hope. or maybe its the other way round.
