Hello everybody. There are a lot of informed persons here and I hope somebody will offer me a solution. I've been taking 100 mg Clorazepate per day for more than a year. In the last months, I noticed I don't remember all things I used to and it's very hard to assimilate new information. My questions are:
1.Will this memory impairment disappear if I will remove Clorazepate from my system in a few months? If yes, how long will it take after quitting?
2.Will pramiracetam (remen, neupramir, pramistar)be of any help after I quit benzos?
3.If not, can you suggest me another memory stimulant (I cannot take pills that increase the dopamine level - Adderall, Concerta, Ritalin, because I'm at risk for a psychotic episode)?

The memory problem is common with that drug. Reducing the dose or eliminating the dose are the obvious ways to deal with that. But to do so means a possible return of the original symptoms as well as destabilization if you reduce too fast.
I know a lot about both sides of the fence and honestly I think you have a much better prognosis by studying the herbal choices. For the original symptoms as well as the memory impairment. Either alone or in combination with your med, there are some excellent ones.
Your mention of the racetams and such, I like that.
Trial and error. Sooner or later, trial and success.

Thank you very much for your answer, Bleauberry. I will reduce them at the indications of my psychiatrist. He also thinks I have to reduce them in the near future, because right now I have some difficulties in my personal life.

Can you please be more specific about the herbal remedies?
Thank you.

I really did not like the therapeutic effect of piracetam and its cousins. Made me feel clearer but not better.
OTOH, I liked Hydergine for its effect on mood, but can't say it was wonderful for memory or clear cognition.
Maybe vinpocetine came down the middle of these two?
Lemon balm, skullcap, zizyphus and withania (ashwaganda) are all useful herbs, and there are Traditional Chinese Medicine formulations available.
This is the end of the thread.
