Ed said it would probably not have the weight gain side effect. Why not? How is it different? All the other side effects the same? Dry mouth constipation, loss of libido, etc.
Thanks!

Opinion on desipramine? Combined with a serotonin med, a very good option. By itself, I'm not too excited about it.

It's different because it's a lot more selective. Most TCAs block a lot of receptors eg. H1 and 5-HT2 which may lead to sedation and weight gain. Desipramine doesn't do this.

Actually, a metabolite of desipramine is a potent serotonin reuptake inhibitor.
But, I'd still be concerned about the cardiac risks of desipramine.

Hi Link,

Really? Which metabolite?
>But, I'd still be concerned about the cardiac risks of desipramine.
It's dangerous in overdose, but at therapeutic doses it doesn't normally do much except increase the heart rate. I don't think this is usually a problem unless someone already suffers from heart disease.

I'm not sure which metabolite. I just remember reading somewhere that a metabolite of desipramine is more selective towards sertonin reuptake
As far as cardiac effects, desipramine is linked to sudden cardiac death, at least according to european research. You should be able to google desipramine + cardiac death

I think a lot of psych drugs have been, especially antipsychotics. The ones which can significantly prolong the QT interval are the worst.
