Long time ago it was added at only 5mg to my benzos didn't do a think. But I've heard if you take benzos buspar won't work? But now they give in higher doses. Won't hurt to ask. Phillipa

Thanks philipa
i will be asking the doc about that. the only thing that has helped my deprission so far was parnate and nardil and now seroquel which has given me big weight gain and heavy morning sedation. i am going to try and get off the seroquel and try something like it hopefully
i had to quite the nardil because of seratonin syndrum
thanks for listening

hello phillipa
at the time i was taking nardil i had a house doctor who was inexperienced with nardil and how much to take , the maximum dose for nardil was 90mg a day ,i got up into the 110 mg after it started to poop out. then wham i ended up in the hospital with the syndrum and almost died . i learned a hard lesson you should have a good p doc

My psychiatrist doesn't like that drug. I had taken it years ago, and I can say it probably helped more with depression in my case rather than anxiety. Benzos worked better for me, but you can develop strong dependency and tolerance on the benzos if you use them everyday. Buspar helped me stop smoking when I was in the hospital. I don't know exactly how, but it helped curb my cravings for a cigarette.

If weight gain is a consideration you may want to pass on the Buspar. It worked well for me when I was suffering major generalized (free-floating) anxieties. It was also the first med to put a great deal of weight on me. It was a long time ago but I remember that there was no switch that said "you are full, stop eating now." Many years later I still have never managed to get back to my pre-buspar weight.
