Has anyone had any experience with this? Although this drug worked reasonably well on depression it isn't worth the 22lb. weight gain in 8 months, constant dry mouth and constipation like no other.
I'm actually almost the same weight as when I was due each time I was pregnant. It's unbelievable that a medication could cause something so profound. Pail never put any weight on me - ever!

Never taken Nortip, but I have taken Tofranil-PM, which is also in the TCA family.
Sorry you're having problems. This taper may be for the best, though; long-term TCA use is probably not the most desirable thing in the world, so maybe you can try something else with fewer long-term risks.
Do you ever take supplements? I remember reading in your previous posts that your mood and anxiety got worse AFTER chronic use of Paxil. This is kind of like what happened with my mood disorder. Before I took antipsychotics and antidepressants, the psychotic component of my problem was decidedly less pronounced than it is now. Part of this might be getting older, but I honestly think part of it is due to the treatment itself. I've been taking a bunch of supplements (you can check the alternative board if you're interested), and I'm pleased with the results.
Good luck!

Laney sure is time to get off the nortrityline. Paxil never caused weight in me either. Maybe your depression is more in reacation to taking ad's maybe just something for anxiety would be best. You know I'm so sorry. Love Phillipa

Just curious since Nortriptyline was beneficial for my depression.
Thanks for previous responses.
Thanks!

I'm not a doc or experienced with TCA drugs, but I've read that Vivactil is more stimulating (its sometimes used for ADHD) and I think the weight gain might be less of an issue than with some of the other TCA options.

Sorry to hear it Laney, I just lost 15 of the 30 lbs I gained on Cymbalta and Abilify. And I have only lost the weight through under-eating to an extreme.
I think the dose of Parnate (30mg) I am on "allows" the weight loss.
Doesn't do much for the depression so i don't recommend it.
Good luck.
