Hello,
Pdoc said a five week wash to Emsam.
I want to hurry it up.
He prescribed (against his wishes) discontinuing the 30mg of cymbalta by two days of 20mg of prozac, then nothing.
Adding Lyrica (for pain help) after the two days of prozac.
My question (I did not have time nor thought of it until later) is if I taper the cymbalta
from 30mg to 20, 15, 10, 5, 0? Then, by the conservative book, how long of a wash?(I have a call out to him.) (Doesn't prozac increase the wash time a great deal?)
Thanks!
(P.S. for anyone who doesn't know me, I deal with depression & pain.)

FB good point as prozac lasts for fives weeks. I got off cymbalta fine went from 60mg to 30mg then found this board and I just dumped some out for a while. Then the switch to new ad probably back to luvox. Love Phillipa

He assented to my cymbalta taper w/o prozac. Said maybe a 3 week washout, but not a promise because he was thinking off the top of his head.
Said I'd need to taper dexedrine. Oh. That hadn't occurred to me.
How long of a dexedrine washout? Jeez. I have to have something to get me through the first week w/o cymbalta!
Sigh.

A five week washout is only for long half life meds like fluoxetine, and that's only if the user has been on it for quite awhile. Cymbalta is out of your system within a few days and you could put on a patch very soon (if that is the only drug you taking). I waited four days after Cymbalta to try Emsam and there was no adverse affect.

Thanks, bearfan.
Hey, may I ask you a few questions? If so...:
How is (or did) the emsam work for you?
I had horrible brain fog on Cymbalta--worse than usual for me.
Does emsam cause that ssri/snri brain fog, too?
Thanks!

FB I just yesterday got an e-mail from an old babbler who started emsam when first out. She continues to do well on it. She's the only one I know still on it I think it was 9mg she ended up sticking with. Love Phillipa

My Pdoc told me Emsam can be taken with just about anything as long as you are at the 6mg dose

Thanks former poster. I kinda figured that, but my beloved pdoc is veeery conservative.
Good news is that it's been three days since cymbalta, and other than a bit of the wobbles, I'm. O.K.
Thanks for posting, fp.

Good luck with Emsam! I think it is a powerful AD. You are going to need something to help you sleep as I do. I'm thinking about trying a minuscule dose of Remeron at bedtime. Another poster on Emsam was instructed to take the patch off at night. I tried that for the first time last night. I think I noticed a slight difference. I'll let you know how it works.

Thanks. I just asked you this very question replying to another post.
I've heard the word is emsam is a no-go as far as AD effect.
Here's hoping for you!
Fingers crossed,

Emsam is definitely working for me. I don't know how long i can go with only 4-5hrs of light sleep every night? I wonder if I up the dose to the 12mg patch and the serotonin effects kick in, it might help me sleep? Any experiences out there?

Thanks Phillipa. I'm kind of reluctant to add more Klonopin to my regime because I've been on it for decades. I might take a quarter tablet (7.5mg) of Remeron to knock me out tonight.

Fb! I haven't been around in so long because it felt like my life was falling apart, so depressed. So sorry for not writing sooner. Will write more soon, but wanted to let you know I am starting Emsam tomorrow. I'm very nervous because I had an allergic reaction to selegiline, but my doc thinks since emsam is transdermal, maybe it will still work. We'll see. I hope so much you are doing great on it. (Will write more soon!!!) Hope to hear soon how you're doing!
Best to you! Cydnie

Cyndie so you like the emsam which dose? No rashes? sleeping at night? Always have loved the idea of a patch. Take it off if a problem. I know the med still in system then but psychologically you feel it's gone. Phillipa

I just stopped using it already! My autoimmune disorder flared up (just like it did on selegiline, which was so much better for me, by the way). I was doing great at first on 2 hrs. of the patch, had one LENs treatment, had my usual reaction where my ears begin to burn, and then get irritated, but this time they burned, and I became rageful. The next morning I was okay, but scared. My pdoc told me to wear it 6 hrs. from then on and I did, and in 2 days, by the next day I was nuts, crazy. I took it off Saturday, haven't put it back on since (it's mon morn.) I still feel cranky. I asked him, since it was so similar to my wellbutrin rageful feeling, what it could be raising the most, but he didn't know, but says it does increase norephinephrine or dopamine and says it was just too much of a good thing for me. I would love to find out what emsam and wellbutrin raise the most if possible, maybe then I could tell what was too much for me (I know a lot of people are irritable on wellbutrin, but I don't know why! I told my pdoc it was common and he told me, "No it isn't!") So I had a bad reaction to the 6mg patch 6hrs. a day, but a great reaction to taking the low dose selegiline pills (until it interfered with my autoimmune pain disorder). Anyway, hopefully that will help someone make some decisions! Our chemistries are different, but if we can go through something painful and help someone else, it's not for nothing!
