What is it about Singulair that it causes some people have severe depression, etc.? I have asthma and really need it as an add-on to pulmicort and xopenex but it makes me so depressed. I went off it about 18 months ago and have been taking the herbal supplement butterbur (petatsites or Petadolex) which helps asthma, but recently learned that butterbur should only be taken 4 - 6 weeks out of a year (don't ask me why, it was stated as such by the German Commission E; doctor tells me I need to follow German advise on this), so I discontinued the butterbur and added just half a tablet of Singulair last night. It is as though the curtain dropped in front of me (as if it wasn't already down.) Singulair affects me almost like psychosis. What in Singulair does this, as most people apparently aren't affected as such.

What I meant by my question is, chemically speaking, why does it cause depression and all that goes with it? What exactly is the action of Singulair that it does that? Trying to figure out a way that I can continue to take it without having the depressive side-effects.

Would it be worth trying Accolate instead of Singulair?
