My new psychiatrist weaned me off 40 mgs. of Prozac and added Luvox to my coctail. I also take Lamictal.
She switched me because I was having focusing problems, and she felt it would help me with my head picking and anxiety issues.
I felt ok sometimes even good a couple of days since 12/29 when I weaned from Prozac and went completely on Luvox.
Then I woke up this morning feeling suicidal and was crying hysterically. I almost never cried with Prozac.
Called doc who thinks it was discontinuation syndrome. Gave me 10 mgs. of Prozac. Did not take me off the Luvox.
I am feeling very distrustful of the Luvox.
Anyone experience anything like this, and what is the cure?

I take low dose luvox for so many years my body is addicted to it. Prozac I found years ago too stimulating for me but if had been available in lower doses than 20mg things might be different today. I feel prozac definitely can be a good med. Phillipa

Prozac has a half life of 5 weeks or so. So I guess that what you are experiencing to having both in your system. How long did you wait before introducing the Luvox?

I wouldn't say I was fine emotionally. I was ok, but a heck of a lot better than I was yesterday when I started crying and feeling suicidal.
Doc added 10 mg of Prozac back into the mix. This melt down happened at home, and I know there were some family triggers ( I have a teenager. My house is a mess.) My sister in law (God bless her) came over and sat with me and cleaned my downstairs. Here's the rub-- I was fine today at work. Now I got Prozac back in my system.I know I need some counseling. I don't want to be on 3 psych meds.

Luvox made me ill with flu-like symptoms whomping me every afternoon but it has helped other people here.
I can see why a teenager and a messy house would be more of a meltdown situation than work. Depression and disorder are a strange and stressful combo with which I also struggle.I hope the change in dose works out for you.

Couldn't you take the liquid form of prozac and dose at a specific mg?

At the time only available in 20mg capsules. Now available in smaller tabs. At the time the doc had said take one every three days. And literally had no anxiety on .25mg of xanax. But since was so stable didn't. Phillipa could probably take 5-10mg today. But that doesn't solve how to get off the luvox. Phillipa
