Since starting Parnate 3 weeks ago, my libido has gradually gone way down. It's to the point that as a 24 year old I've started losing interest in girls. My dosage has slowly been increased to 60mg (about 3 days at this dose now). I've tried to look for answers here on the site but couldn't really find any.
Does this lack of libido fade away after a while?
Is there any medicine I can take to help restore my libido?
Will increasing my Parnate dose solve the problem?I'm desperate for an answer because I met a beautiful girl for the first time in a long time and we just started dating but this issue feels so awful right now.
We all know how hard relationships can be when suffering from treatment-resistant depression; this just makes it harder.

I wouldn't say that my libido is decreased from the medication alone. My libido usually decreases as I become depressed. I will say that I have been on parnate for a little over three weeks. I am at 50mg right now. I don't mean to sound graphic but there has been no problem with delayed orgasms like I experienced with SSRI's. When my depression goes into remission it will be easier to answer this question. As you probably know, one of the many symptoms of depression is loss of libido.

How are you doing depression wise. Have you noticed any significant changes. Three weeks is may still be just a bit early, but some people respond fast.

I've been on all the SSRI's and atypical antipsychotics before without success, but the Parnate seems to really be working. My biggest problem is still anhedonia (loss of joy in activities) although it's getting a bit better. I'm told that Parnate can take up to 8-12 weeks to really kick in, though I'm just not sure about this ---
Does anyone have personal experience of getting additional benefits that late, even after 12 weeks?
It's so hard that when I'm getting better, my libido is so low and hurting my new relationship.

> It's so hard that when I'm getting better, my libido is so low and hurting my new relationship.I spoke with my pharmacist and asked the question about how parnate works in regards to beneficial effects. Although some says it just "kicks in", meaning from one day to the next they all the sudden have no depressive symptoms. The pharmacist told me it was a slow build up. I myself am confused as well. Who knows. Keep taking it and expect for things to get better as the days/weeks go by.

just a quick one: if you feel that an MAOI is right for you, but tranylcypromine (parnate) has some negative side-effects, you can try one of the two other MAOIs, phenelzine or isocarboxazid.
maybe you would tolerate them better at a similar efficacy.

I honestly go weeks without thinking about my penis and I live in Los Angeles. Everywhere I go, I see hot girls, and I have no reaction.

Hey Sailboat, I think you and i are in the exact same boat(pun intended). I've tried every ssri, snri, and add-on, including wellbutrin and lithium all for depression Nothing has ever worked for me and I'm 29 years old. At week 5 parnate worked for 3 days. It wasn't incredible, but I felt much better. The feeling went away and hasn't retuned for a week and half. My doctor has increased the dose to 100 mg and told me to be patient, sometimes it takes 12 weeks. So, you aren't the only one who has heard 12 weeks, fourtunately for you, you are actually feeling good. I am however my typical miserable self hoping for an effect. It's week 6 for me, so I'm not too sure what to do. Could you explain the beneficial effect you are feeling and how long it's lasted, when it began etc? Sorry I wrote so much
