What does that mean as this search really honestly scared me. Are there no meds that are safe or is it not true? Phillipa

~~~ Most do, don't they?
> Are there no meds that are safe or is it not true? Phillipa
~~~ That's quite broad a query, don't ya think?... IMO, there is no concrete absolute always true answer. I believe THAT is what you're seaching for.... it's not findable. Therapy can be helpful in helping with concrete thinking.

Glydin thankfully you are here. Of all the posters I need to talk with you. I understand it's a very board statement. And I would have never googled this if not triggered from another thread. Never ever did I expect to find this. I'm rather shocked. Right now my coping mechanisms are low and I need some positive reenforcement to continue on and not fear. I'm sure this isn't clear. Just want to talk to you. Please? Love Phillipa

All medication, psych meds, heart meds etc. all come with possible side effects. They have to list everything in order to cover their *ss*s. But many of the side effects listed are rare. So I think that meds are usually safe, but caution should always be taken when you start a new med to make sure that you don't experience any BAD side effects which should not be confused with ANNOYING side effects.

Phillipa, I think you should stop Googling the safety of meds. You are only going to get more upset. Why don't you google the benefits of medication?

I usually look for side effects on rxlist.com. It tells all adverse effects reported but compares those percentages with placebo. So 3% of those treated might get a headache, but so do 4% of those taking a placebo. It puts things in perspective.

That is the same site I use as well for the same reason. I find it very helpful.

Well, years ago people with mental illness were put away for forever. Then as meds came along, less and less people with mental illness were institutionalized. That is the biggest benefit I can think of right now. You should read "Upstairs in the Crazy House" by Pat Caponni and then her second book, "Beyond the Crazy House"
