Meds: Been on 2.5 mg Lex since just after Thanksgiving, higher doses give me horrible effects
Well I'm back from vacation in SE Asia, and although the vacation was fun and I felt okay most of the time, I feel like **** now I'm back. I'm still having intrusive thoughts and feeling triggered a lot. Also some symptoms like muscle twitching have reappeared. I don't know why this is, though. I am wondering if part of it is from the malaria pills that I have to be on for another month - my doc says there should be no interaction but who knows. Anyway, just wanted to let you all know I'm back. :)

Welcome back. Sorry you have to take malaria pills. Do they still use Quinidine? Anyway also I upped to 5mg lexapro and I don't think I like it. So it's good to hear that 2.5mg is still your dose. Maybe I should also drop back? Hoping vacation was fun!!!!! Phillipa

Hi Philippa,
Yes the vacation was fun :) Not Quinidine, I'm on doxycycline, it's to prevent malaria rather than treat it... I had to start it before I left and have to stay on it another month! Whew.
How come you don't like the 5 mg Lex, is it giving you nasty side effects? Hope that gets sorted out soon!

Doxycycline for malaria? Never heard of that one before. No really no bad side effects although I find myself forgetting some on the higher dose. So what you think I should do stay on 5mg or back down? Phippipa

Well, if the 5 mg doesn't seem to be helping and is just making you forget stuff, no reason to stay at 5 mg, right? Also it depends how much it upsets you to forget stuff. I'm in grad school and my advisor gets mad at me whenever I get fuzzy-headed so I can't afford to be forgetting stuff :)

How long've you been at 5 mg? If less than a month, I would probably give it a month. If more than a month with no benefits and no improvement in the memory I would probably drop back to 2.5 mg. That's just what I would do :)

I have to confess haven't been consistant with dose mostly 2.5 then for a few days 5mg then drop back. Been going on since July. So on or off? Phillipa

Well, if you haven't given the 5 mg a consistent try for at least a solid couple of weeks, that might be worth a shot, to see how it goes. I know it sounds like a small change in dose, but for me there definitely was a difference between 5 mg and 2.5 (5 mg made me kind of bonkers). Good luck!
