Parnate + Cold Medication

Posted by Shadus on December 26, 2010, at 21:57:18

My face is going to detonate. I gotta go see a doctor. Any suggestions on what to tell my md about what may not conflict with taking an maoi (parnate), i went this route in the past with another doctor (diff med than a maoi, less restrictions) and it seems to work well to have a few suggestions when you show up if it has a lot of interactions. This time I'll need an antibiotic too but if i had caught it earlier or was trying to relieve symptoms is there ANY good over the counter items that might work without major issues (*misses his nyquil*)

Mucinex helps. Just make sure you get JUST Mucinex, not any of the combos with pseudoephedrine or dextromethorphan. And I used a neti pot to irrigate my nose. Eucalyptus oil to help open up my airways.

Hope you feel better soon,
gg

I forgot about nasal pots entirely, I used one years and years ago, thats a good and safe plan... if water or saline starts giving me problems I'm in real trouble.

When I started on parnate I was also taking perphenazine and it gave me akathisia. I was at a day program and the p-doc there suggested benadryl but the pharmacist said I shouldn't take it with parnate. So I think anti-histamines are not recommended with parnate. On the other hand, I never liked the way they made me feel when I had a cold. They dried up my sinuses, but I felt worse from the anti-histamines than from the cold.

It depends on where you are with your cold. If you are the early congested phase, you can use Vicks' Vapour Rub or some Tiger Balm if you are getting headaches from being so congested. You can also use some Saline nasal spray. For congestion that won't budge you can try Mucinex as long as it's the one with NO decongestant. Finally, if you are in the coughing stage, you can take PLAIN Robotussin.

And don't forget the Chicken soup. ;)

Feel better soon. I know how hard it to be sick and not being able to take anything that will completly ease it.
