I've read online and in my Drug books that Zofran (Ondansetron) is/can be used for social anxiety disorder. I suppose this is because of it's effects on 5-HT3 receptors? But BuSpar does the same thing - why isn't it as helpful? Or am I wrong?

Really as when had surgery the doc said to have zofran on hand and I remembered was it was used in chemo to prevent vomiting so didn't fill. Then googled it and didn't like the side effects. Is there a study? Phillipa

buspar is a 5-ht1a agonist. It has no effect on 5-ht3 that I am aware of.

Hi J
I have heard of ondansetron being used for anxiety (experimentally).
Mirtazapine (Remeron) blocks 5-HT3 receptors amongst other things. That may contribute to its effects.
This is the end of the thread.
