Phillipa, has your MRI been interpreted?

ENT's RN called yesterday said no reason for loss of taste and smell. But following up with the doc there orignally wanted to see. Now they only read it for taste and smell doesn't mean that hole link spoke of in my brain isn't in my brain. This part is joke. But now I'm feeling horrible as will I never smell a flower again or taste a taste? It's true loss. So glad you thought of me. Phillipa

Phillipa, this is it? No more avenues of investigation?
Hmmmm. Would someone possibly be interested because of your situation's unusual nature?
Not only not smelling--not tasting. That is a tremendous loss. I'm really sorry Phillipa.

Philippa,
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I hope that they can figure out what's going on.

Phillipa, did you ask them if long term benzodiazepene use could cause nerve damage?
I read that long term alcohol use can cause neurological disease, it wouldn't suprise me if benzos could do the same.
Sorry to hear of such problems. Do you see a difference with taste-for example with sour vs bitter or sweet? Or is it diminished taste overall?

I'm sorry that nothing was found. What happened to you BEFORE you lost you sense of taste and smell. I imagine that it didn't just happen like that.

My gut says that since it faded during the time I was having prk lasix surgery of eyes that somehow this was responsible. I did more googling today and the doc that I saw in DC was mentioned in most of the articles Dr. Heinkin. Anyway scarey thing I saw was loss of tasted can be first sign of Alzheimers and also related to Parkinson's. Haven't researched it yet. If anyone can think of key words to google with please let me know. I did try once to find a connection with lasix and couldn't. I just know it was that. Who knows what a laser can do? Thanks for caring guys. As for tastes the tongue has taste buds for sweet, sour, salty, bitter. Sour green ice tea a bit of taste, and also dark chocolate daily. Phillipa ps also never feel hunger or full? And then there is the lymes but I'm not going there.

Phillipa, Didn't know about a taste/parkenson's connection. My FIL hasn't reported any diminished taste or smell. Hmmmm. Try not to spook yourself, though I imagine in your situation, I would be wary and alert. Do you think there is a lymes connection?

I thought it was due to a viral infection. Maybe I imagined reading that, but I thought that's what the docs have said in the past?

GG that's what they hypothethized but no proof. The lasix fits the time frame and that's what this ENT asked what happened when it happened. One eye done other just done. No viruses , no running nose, no fever, so I know it wasn't a virus. You just know. I also know not Alzheimers or Parkinsons after googling none of those symtoms. The docs I saw in the past just guessed as tested me for autoimmune sjournes as that's a symtom of it and was negative. Virus if so could be lymes. Probably will never know. Phillipa

Have you ever taken an NRI like desipramine or strattera? Or NDRI like wellbutrin?
Ive read (and experienced) that NRIs seem to shrink the blood vessels in the sinus and reduce congestion a bit. Killed off a lot of my allergy symptoms by going on an NRI its great.
It might be that theres swelling which is putting pressure on olfactory nerves, or blocking air from flowing over?
Taste and smell are linked, without being able to smell your sense of taste is impared a bit.

Hi took cymbalta 60mg at the time of the smell and taste loss and nothing. No stuffy nose that is what's so strange? Phillipa

Remember when you had the surgery done, you had saliva problems. I think it was coming out a gland on your face. Maybe it is related to that?

Me too will see the original doc wanted to see and have the MRI on a disc that is mine. Hoping he sees something. Thanks for caring. Phillipa
