Zoloft VS Prozac, anything else?

Posted by drgnflyx3 on September 15, 2010, at 9:53:22

Hi,
I was on Zoloft at 125mg and it worked GREAT for me mentally. I was able to motivate myself to do every day activities and more. I was able to go out and actually have fun. I felt 'normal' for the first time in my life. However, the side effects of hot flashes and dehydration got worse the higher I went up in the dosage of Zoloft. At 125mg, I felt great mentally but not with the side effects.

They put me on Prozac at 20mg and I felt like I was stuck in a bad mood all the time. They now put me on 40mg and it has only been a few days but I feel so 'blah' and I have so much less apathy right now than I ever did. I am also very sleepy.

I have been very sick on Prozac, nauseous, headaches, dizziness, sleepiness, etc. The first two weeks I was on Zoloft, my sleep was a little off but that's about it, and then it went back to normal.

I have tried Lamictal, Welbutrin, Depakote, Effexor, Cymbalta, Lexapro, Zoloft, and now Prozac.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Has Zoloft worked great for anyone and then they had to switch to something else that worked just as well?

I am trying to find something similar to Zoloft. It is the only one that ever made me feel 'normal.'

Please help =/

I have not tried Paxil at all. I heard a lot of weight gain issues with that one specifically. I gained 50 lbs in 2 years on Zoloft =(

Do you think you could feel almost as good at 100 mg and have less side effects? I'm sure you were at 100 mg at one point. If you were, how did you feel and how long did you stay on that dose?

How long were you on 125 mg?

Hmm, Something that works like Zoloft. I bet there is a tricyclic AD out there, I'm just not sure what it is.

Have you given every SSRI you mentioned at least 12 weeks before stopping it?

I was on 125mg for about a 6 months and the side effects were just awful, even with how mentally great I felt. I was on 100mg for over a month and I felt like jumping off a cliff. I went from 100 to 125 because of that.

All the other medications I was on for 6 months or more. They did nothing good for me, at all =/

Man, sorry to hear that. It must be so frustrating to find a medication that treats your symptoms so well but gives you such unbearable side effects. I don't have any suggestions at the moment, other than some natural approaches like fish oil, st. john's wort, holy basil, rhodiola, vitamin D3, Magnesium, and good well balanced nutrition. Hopefully a few people here will have some good medication suggestions.

Do you mean prozac caused more apathy or less.

I think celexa or lexapro would be better for you. Something about zoloft and how it increases dopamine seems to make some people want to crawl out of their skins. I've never taken zoloft but I've heard of this happening to a lot of people.

Have you tried Wellbutrin? Effexor?
