I'm considering trying zoloft, but I've wondered what others have experienced. Is it more blunting than prozac. Which is better for attention and cognition?

To be honest when first released my pdoc put me on the 20mg of prozac and day one great, day two anxiety, day three sheer panic. I wasn't depressed at the time so discontinued. The doc thought when I saw him and told him of my experience that it was remarkable and said take once every three days. I was too scared to so didn't. In retrospect maybe should have. Tried zoloft 50mg and then stimulating also. Meanwhile have tried the meds that were stimulating years later and they did nothing. Zoloft is supposed to be good for a lot I think I'd try that. Phillipa sorry to go round and about so long.

I tried them both. Didn't notice any great differences.

I've read that Prozac tends to be more stimulating (which may explain why so many people, from the early days of the clinical studies onwards, require some sort of a sedative or neuroleptic along with the prozac), while zoloft tends to be more "calming." I personally didn't like zoloft too much; I felt a bit too blunted, but my dose was kind of high, so...maybe it'll work for you.

Ed seriously I nearly flipped out on prozac. And was calm when started that three days. Didn't end up calm three days of extra xanax think it was at the time .25mg TID. Phillipa

I found Prozac to be both stimulating and calming, but it blunted my emotions completely and I pretty much didn't care about anything. I wasn't depressed, but life was bizarre feeling that way. Zoloft was the very first SSRI I took back in the 90's, and while it worked for my depression at the time, it made me feel tired and I seemed to yawn constantly while on it. I also required a high dosage of 200 mg daily to have it work adequately for my depression. Personally wouldn't go back on either one.

Prozac is waaay more emotionally blunting and libido reducing for me. I think Zoloft and Lexapro are the best SSRI options, at least for most.

Thanks morgan and proudfoot. That's just the information I need. Which SSRI is most blunting, and which one, if any can increase emotions? I can only tolerate 2.5 mg prozac before the blunting starts. 5 mg Lexapro was too much for me but maybe a lower dose would be needed for lexapro since it is so much more selective than prozac and since i only tolerate a low dose of prozac.
I would consider tianeptine but I can't afford it. Also its major side effect is causing nightmares, and I get them now. So I think that might indicate I need a little bit more serotonin not less.
I'm still up for input though. I wonder how luvox compares?

I do not find Prozac agitating at all, even at very high doses (100mg). SSRIs do not produce this effect in me. On the other hand, antipsychotics make me very agitated. We are all unique.

>Which SSRI is most blunting?
For me, Paxil 40-60mg per day was probably the most blunting.
>and which one, if any can increase emotions?
SSRIs do not generally increase emotional intensity, they reduce it - which is part of their mechanism of action.

You really just have to try the drug out and see what effect it has on you. Remember to be prepared to give whatever you choose a full 12 weeks and some dosage tweaking. I would choose Zoloft before Luvox, JMHO.

Yeh perhaps I'm just barking up the wrong tree. I've never tried a TCA so maybe that will be next or adderall since what I am on now isn't doing anything.
