While I am not treatment resistant per se, I had problems with the SSRIs/SNRIs in either side effects (sexual problems, weight gain) or not working well enough, so I asked the Doc about Parnate (I previously tried a 2 week trial Moclobermide with mixed results-mostly not controlling anxiety enough). He prescribed me 10mg with the option to go up to as much as 30. I am almost scared to take it because of the possibility I can die from it. Doc said its not as dangerous as it sounds, but there is still a risk. Should I go ahead and give it a whirl? I have no idea what to expect from it. I am a bit concerned that it will make me overally agitated. I ideally want to get rid of depressions, anxieties, ocd and help improve cognition (slight add) without sexual side effects or weight gain.
Anyone with experiences?

You won't know until you try it. Will he only let you go up to 30 mg? That might be a problem. 30 mg is a really low dose.
I hope it works for you! Please don't be scared of this med.

I said to my p-doc that maybe the reason people don't prescribe MAOIs is because, if someone is suicidal, they can just eat some cheese and salami with a bottle of chianti and check out. He said these are tendencies, not certainties. Most people can violate the diet here and there with no problem at all. Deaths from MAOIs are rare, as are serious hypertensive crises.

I think there is some of that, but I believe the main reason is that most GPs and newer psychiatrist don't have much experience with them anymore. Sort of the same way that Tricyclics aren't use much in favor of newer drugs.
