I think I remember you saying that it was stronger than taurine.

I find taurine useful.

Any withdrawals issues getting off Campral?

None for me. I took it for helping me deal with the physical withdrawal from alcohol and the early rehabilitation period. I tapered down for about 6 weeks before discontinuing.

Thanks for the feedback!

Exactly what does it feel like?

Any side effects?

I googled it last night and the site I visited said just used for those who had detoxed off alchohol to help to not drink. It did list a lot of side effects but seems good for alchohol recovery. Phillipa

Well, for me the initial dose had me feeling euphoric, but I believe that was due to the release from anxiety. That subsided over the course of the day, and I quickly settled in to feeling as close to normal as I had felt in months if not years. I never felt that euphoria again, and simply felt free of my anxious symptoms.

I had some gastric distress (gas, loose stools) initially, but this subsided, and I'm not certain it wasn't part of the withdrawal process from the alcohol. (That had been a steady daily use for 20 years.)

As I say, the Campral eliminated the anxiety and physical discomfort I felt due to the alcohol withdrawal process. I never used it as a stand alone anxiety medication. The main issue it has in treatment with addicts is patient compliance, but that's complex, since it's not intended to be a singular medication for drinking abstinence.

Is Campral used a lot in the US? It isn't used very often here. Not sure why.

It's relatively new to the market, and the anxiety relief was a side effect for me. I don't know how often medication is used to combat alcohol addiction, but I suspect Antabuse still gets prescribed most.

Maybe it's a cost concern? And what physicians are familiar with. I happened to have a doctor who knew my anxiety levels surrounded abstinence ran way high and were a major factor in my success.

Funny but that's not the right word for it. Grateful, humbled by the entire experience. Thank goodness there are the tools out there and the experts to help me through the journey.
I definitely dodged - not a bullet, but a surface-to-air missile in my life by being able to recover as much as I have.
