I was wondering if anyone takes meds for ADD and BP? I have been bad about taking my Adderall and have to get back on it.
My doc is pushing either Lithium, Geodon or both as mood stabilizers. Geodon because of the weight neutral.
I'm wondering what others' experiences have been with ADD and BP?

Sheila how does one distinguish between mania or hypomania and add. I seriously would think it would be hard to treat. Add like an upper right I don't think I understand the two conditions together? Phillipa

I used to take Adderall w/ Abilify for depression and ADD. The combo worked well as long as the doses of each med were controlled; too much abilify with the adderall felt "odd" (can't really describe it) and too much Adderall left me feeling sped-up and antsy.
Adderall has anti-depressant effects in a lot of people, so that should help...it can also have a mood-leveling effect in people with attention problems, so you might be able to keep your doses of Geodon and adderall lower by using them together. Good luck!

I don't have ADD, but my pdoc prescribes Adderall with my BP meds. I am just using it to get a boost in the morning to get me out of bed. The Adderall hasn't made me hypomanic in any way.

do you take a slow release version? how much? I am still on dexadrine (short). but i'm trying to figure out what works best for me.
adderall years ago without a stimulant sent me into a deep depression w/ some cycling. so i'm kind of a bipolar II. Now I'm on Lamictal & am trying Dexadrine.
There are days that Im freaking tired. I was afraid it was contributing, but it was probably because my hormones were "trumping" it at certain times. Or is it making my hormones have a more negative effect on me? Drinking coffee or taking a stimulant doesn't give me more energy when I am tired.
I started taking dexadrine for some motivation, and it kind of did. It may still at times, but it is not consistent.
My dr. wanted to to try 6x10mg/day. Unfortunately I don't think it made much of a difference except making it harder to sleep.
I am also wondering if it contributed to my annoying "brain fatigue".
I am just taking 2-3 mg a day now. If anything, it helps w/ my weight :)
