Calling all perphenazine users!

Posted by Zyprexa on July 20, 2010, at 16:45:12

Is it working? What is your opinion of it?

It seems like more people are taking perphenazine now?

I've been taking it for about the last 3 years. And have better results with it than geodon and abilify. Unfortunaly it failed to replace the zyprexa. But, it helps in combination with the zyprexa.

OK, I'm not a perphenazine user, but I have been curious about this medication. It seems relatively cheap and supposedly has anti-anxiety qualities...can I ask you some questions?

1) does it give you EPS?

2) Do you get akathisia or muscle stiffness?

3) does it help with anxiety?

4) ANY problems at all?

Also...how'd you get a perphenazine+zyprexa combo? How much of each do you take? What does the perphenazine fail to do that the zyprexa (or the combo) does?

Thanks.

I take 4mg, three times a day. I also take parnate, but fine the perphenazine takes care of residual depression, like feeling cold and tired, stressed and unmotivated. I started on 36mg per day and had akathesia. That went away when I lowered the dose. No EPS, but my p-doc worries about that and has tried to take me off it entirely. The good thing is that, unlike AAPs which made me gain 2-3 pounds a week, perphenazine has no effect on my weight.

I use it for sleep only. I actually think it makes my depression worse!

Ok, I've never taken it without the zyprexa, so its hard to say what exactly it does. But, I think it actualy takes the weight gain out of my 15mg zyprexa. I've been actualy losing a bit of weight in the last year. Before the perphenazine I was taking a lot more zyprexa, 20-30mg a day. Now I take 12mg x3 perphenazine with the zyprexa. I find that the perphenazine actualy lightens my mood. No EPS. Maybe a little TD, but take cogentin also. Occasionaly my hands shake a bit. Not sure if thats from the perphenazine, but my hands shook a lot more with the abilify I took before it, so it could be left over. Can't tell if it affects anxiety or if thats the zyprexa, but I think it does.

No muscle stiffness. I got on this combo in the process of trying to get off the zyprexa. I started to decrease the zyprexa below 10mg and couldn't handle it so back on the zyprexa 10-15mg its been since starting the perphenazine. The combo seems to work so here I am. I think the perphenazine is helping so I stuck with it.
