P docs in Texas - San Antonio, but would travel

Posted by akaalex on July 20, 2010, at 10:44:16

I need an experienced doctor who is not afraid of prescribing contraindicated meds, or off label meds. Someone who really knows their stuff. I was seeing Charles Bowden here, but the ofc staff was a huge drawback. My diagnosis is (well, it seems every Dr has a different one): I had a severe neurotoxic reaction to Zoloft ,and now it is like refractive major atypical unipolar with ADHD, or Bipolar non-specific. I was unresponsive for 18mo; 9 years to functionality. I gave up on meds; use meditation and exercise, but am entering a time of heavy stress. Thank you in advance. What a terrific group.

Unfortunately I don't know anyone. But Dr. Bowden is supposed to be one of the best. Is his office staff that much of a drawback that you need to stop seeing him? I suspect many really good doctors have difficult office staffs.

Emily, thank you for the response. Yes, I'm afraid that since Bowden is out of the country so much, and has so much going on that obtaining scripts is very difficult and often one is left before a long holiday with nothing. Also, If they make a mistake (no reminder call, unrecorded appointment, etc.) they blame the patient, and apparently Bowden believes them. I just could not take anymore invalidation. Especially from the one place I thought I would garner respect. One particular incident was devastating and set me back months. Making an effort for me is at times nearly impossible; having to do it repeatedly (even having a friend try also); then being blamed for someone else's mistake is something I could not take. I worked with him for years. The situation absolutely broke my heart.
