Expectations and Longevity of Weaning off Lamictal

Posted by cycling on July 10, 2010, at 14:07:07

I'm currently taking 400 mg of lamictal but it didn't end up helping my symptoms which is frequent shortness of breath, panicy feeling for no reason, loss of concentration and memory, specifically short term memory, and irritability. I'm going to my pdoc on monday and we are going to start weaning off lamictal. How long does it take to wean off lamictal if I'm at 400 mg? If it takes a long time, will I not be able to start another med until I completely weaned off that med? Thoughts?

You have to wean off lamictal gradually, since it's an anti-seizure drug and can cause seizures if withdrawn too quickly. OTHO, unlike MAOI's, you can wean off lamical and start another drug at the same time.
