Day 1, Effexor restart at 12.5mgs

Posted by CaffeinePoet on July 7, 2010, at 22:14:41

Took 1/4 of a 50mg non-ER Effexor tab today. Building up slowly to prevent the migrainous onset I got last time, starting with a half tab.

I felt pretty good! A little anxious inside though. But my memory seems better, my hand-eye coordination worked better. I felt tired right when the drug would have worn off, a few hours into the half-life.

I'm restarting Effexor after a months-long process of anxiety due to blurry vision daily and trouble finding a diagnosis and treatment for it. After extensive testing, the thought is retinal migraine and possible thyroid eye disease.

I am also on verapamil(40 mgs x 3) for migraine prevention, and Clonazepam (.5 x 2) for anxiety.

I used to take 50mgs of Effexor and it worked for YEARS for anxiety/ocd and migraine. I went off due to fatigue and memory issues after a bit. Giving it another shot after 7 months off.

Throid eye disease? Only eye involvement I've heard of is the buldging eyes from Graves disease? Is there another one? Phillipa

The diagnosis seems iffy to me too. But I saw an optometrist, 2 opthamologists, and a retinal specialist. Basically, the blood vessels on the surface of my eyes became red and inflamed over a short period of time. I had started taking Cytomel previous to this, and Cytomel can cause transient hyperthyroidism just like in Graves' disease. I have a mild case if I have it, but it has disrupted my vision. I went off Cytomel 3 weeks ago in the hopes of improvement, and the vein swelling went down but I have a bit of distortion still.

I of course worry that something more sinister is afoot, because I'm a hypochondriac. But at this point, practically every eye test has been done that could be. Also neuro tests; both eyes are dry and inflamed, that's all they know.

I have been thinking the same thing, especially because I had a lot of other symptoms associated (fatigue etc. ) for a while. I am holding off testing for now because I have recently been through so much medical testing.
