Anybody ever hear of or use trazodone for ssri anorgasma. When i was on it i thought it was a horrible antidepressant. And after a couple weeks it didnt even make me drowsy. Also tried remeron which made me sleep 16 hours a day. I dont seem to do good on any meds that increase norepineidrine. Tried to go off ssris did not work to well. I guess that i just have to acknoldege the fact that i am mentally ill and i have to be on meds :( however i feel like a eunich walking around. Going back on the ssri increased the amount of time to orgasm to like 30 min by self stimulation. In a vagina highly unlikely:( anyway this really sapping my self conifdence :( I am currently on lexapro 10mg once daily. tried buspar augmentation did seem to help. Should i ask my psydoc about trazodone. Could a HT2 antagonist like trazodone help? could this undo the antidepressant effect of the lexapro? any opinion would help greatly.

About me: male 29 major depression mood swings anxeity Crohns disease hard childhood Boarderline low testosterone . Love shy until age of 27 One long term relatonship (1 1/2 years currently single and activly dating). had sexual expriences before then but no long term relatonships past a month or so. when having sex unable to maintain erection or unable to finish. Able to achieve orgasm by masterbation. all the times i had sex was on ssris lexapro prozac cymbalta effexor etc. Tried wellbutrin (aggression agtation) Cymbalta which is supposed to not have as many sexual side effects did not help either actually made me a little more anxious than ssris. Started testosterone replacement about 1 year ago now able to maintain erections and increase sexual desire. Saw new Psych doc asked for serzone he declned per poss liver damage Started Trazodone 150 mg at bedtime increasing 300mg tonight. When I spank the monkey amount of time needed to orgasm reduced signifcantly (trying to cut that out though). I really do not think trazodone is a really good antidepressant though. Noticing little effect Started dating new girl one month when the time comes would really like to finish. tried going with out an antidepressant for a while became extremely deppressed. I am really embarassed does anyone have any advice on meds etc. would really appreciate thanks.

The best thing for antidepressant-caused inorgasmia is ginkgo biloba. I know from personal experience, and also from working for a pdoc who was open enough to suggest it to his patients...with close to 100% success!! (You can even take too much!) A caveat...ginkgo is not safe for people who have had any kind of past physical trauma to the brain.

a DA agonist like mirapex might be good.cyproheptadine is a bit cleaner than trazadone.
yohimbe could be worth a try too; it isn't an antihistamine like mirtazapine is.
for just hte erection problems, a PDE-5 inhibitor is pretty good.

I don't know if chowdha is male or female (?)-- yohimbe can cause bleeding in females though...

I tried periactin put me right to sleep and made me feel wierd cant do that evry time i want to have sex. im a male too thanks for your responses everybody. also labopharm is coming out with a controlled release form of trazodone called oleptro i see the shrink later this month i will post if he gives me trazodone and let you know my results thanks chowdha

Trazodone is a mediocre antidepressant (though can be useful for sleep) that doesn't cause anorgasmia - however, it doesn't relieve anorgasmia when used with an SSRI. Consider adding either Wellbutrin or Amantadine to the SSRI for anorgasmia.
