Does anyone take Ambien for sleep at night and experience tiredness and just an all around slowness the following day?

Ambien is "less bad" than some of other pills out there, but still kind of bad when it comes to daytime drowsiness. Sonata might be better for you...or a reasonable dose of a high-potency, short-acting benzo, like xanax or ativan (just don't use them a lot).
On the natural side of things, there's always 5-htp (NOT with sris), niacinamide, and valerian or catnip.
On a personal note, I've found that sometimes a night without sleep gets me to look at things that are going on in my life. Sometimes I see things in a different light afterwards.
good luck.

I used to have that reaction to Ambien CR. The regular Ambien wasn't a problem, just the CR.

I'm having this problem with regular Ambien. The next day i'm pooped out. I take Nardil, and even the Nardil doesn't feel like it works at all. I really dont' know how Ambien makes me feel so tired the next day, but i do take 2 doses because of the insomnia i get from nardil. 10 mg at 11 pm and the other 5 hours later around 3 am when i wake up unfortunely.

That's quite a bit of Ambien. I took it for a while a few years ago & at first I thought it was a miracle drug -- with only 5 mg before bed (rarely, 10) I would wake up feeling refreshed and smarter. But after several months I began to get an Ambien hangover that not only made me sleepy, but produced very frightening experiences the next day of being both asleep and awake at the same time -- of having a dream in one part of my brain and being in the present moment of the waking world in another. I quit taking it and haven't had a similar experience since -- over three years.

Can you recommend another sleep aid that doesnt leave a 'hang over' effect the next day? I heard Sonata (Zaleplon) doesn't but its a fairy new sleeping aid and haven't heard of many that use it.

Sorry, I haven't used any others. My experience was so frightening I'd rather stay awake. But now that I have gotten my anxiety / depression under control with Cymbalta I am sleeping much better.
