clomipramine/Remeron combo

Posted by tensor on May 6, 2010, at 12:56:46

My combo with Remeron and clomipramine is working. I finally have energy, motivation and interest to do something. I'm feeling better now than I have done in years. I'm still tuning the clomipramine dosage, but currently I'm taking 150mg with 30mg Remeron. The only troublesome side effects are anorgasmia and dry mouth.

Tensor you feel great now. Give the other time and please enjoy feeling well that's wonderful. Seems like quite a few are doing well on clomipramine. Love Phillipa

Try dostinex, or miraprex or requip
Dopamine agonists often work

Yay!

May I ask a question or two?

Do you take the remeron at night, and if so, is it reasonably 'gone' by morning?

Does the remeron work around the clock in relieving anxiety (that is if you had it)?

Good for you! :-)

That's an interesting combo, and one I don't think I've ever heard suggested before. How did you come to the decision to try it? Was is suggested by your psychiatrist?

Unbelievable how things come full circle. Clomipramine was the second drug I tried back in the early nineties. If my memory serves me, the drug caused me massive weight gain, sweating problems, difficulty with urination, and significant anorgasmia. That's just what I can remember though. It did address my problems, at least to a certain extent, but at the time with little exposure to psych drugs I couldn't believe there wasn't something better out there. Now I've gotta wonder whether maybe there really isn't anything better for people like me. I've spent the last 17 or so years experimenting and struggling in vain and have never found anything that worked for more than maybe a month or two - and that was only one or two drugs out of the countless I've tried.

I guess everyone's different.

Yes, I take it at night and I have never had any problems with 'hangover', although it helps me fall asleep.

> Does the remeron work around the clock in relieving anxiety (that is if you had it)?

I'm not sure how much Remeron helps with my anxiety, it would not be enough on its own. Clomipramine definitely helps and I also take clonazepam regularly, so it's hard to say.

First of all, clomipramine is probably the most widely used TCA here (Finland), not only for OCD but for depression. I suggested the combo but my sister have taken it for a decade. I tried it a few years ago but I switched to Edronax after a few weeks because I thought I only needed the NRI part.

I once suggested DA agonists for my pdoc to use as antidepressants but he was reluctant because he had no experience with them. Have you used them as antidotes for AD induced sexual problems? They seem to have nasty side effects, but I don't know. Is there a DA agonist to prefer over the others?

Glad to hear and very happy for you. Knowing that Remeron has minimal sexual side effects, you may be able to up it at some point and cut back on the clomipramine. :)

Hi Mattias,

Excellent news that you're feeling so much better :)

Perhaps you could get some lozenges, mouth gel or a spray for the dry mouth. I don't know what you have in Finland but some of the best brands from the UK are AS Saliva Orthana, Biotene OralBalance and BioXtra.

About the dopamine agonists... I've not heard of anyone who took them for depression or sexual problems who didn't stop taking them after a short while. Problematic side effects seem to be very frequent, including psychiatric reactions. I find this quite worrying.

Someone on nardil recently posted that he used dostinex for nardil induced sexual problems and that it worked well.

I got a spray (Proxident) from my dentist which works pretty good and lozenges from the pharmacy, both contain malic acid and some other stuff.

Yeah, I know. I have heard of people starting to hallucinate on them. That would only be of help if you happened to see nude women. Well, jokes aside, I don't know what todo really. Cyproheptadine is not available here, and I wonder how much sildenafil helps with anorgasmia.

Kind regards,
Mattias

The problem with malic acid products is that acidic lozenges are believed to damage the tooth enamel. pH-neutral sprays are the best. Some contain fluoride to help protect against decay. Mucin-based sprays are more effective than carboxymethylcellulose sprays. Sugar free chewing gum is often effective and is obviously very inexpensive.

Hope this helps.

Gum w/ xylitol is actually good for teeth and gums.

Spry is a brand of dental hygiene products available in the states--some for dry mouth-- that utilize xylitol.

They use it in some of the sprays and oral gels too.

Nice, glad to hear you are doing better. Just goes to show how these drugs can have paradoxical reactions in some people. One might think that combo would be sedative, but it gets you motivated. Cool!

Hi,

How long did it take for that combo to work?

My psychiatrist has added remeron to seroxat (which already tried twice in the past). I've been on this combination for over six weeks and I really don't think that the remeron is helping much.

The pleasure factor seems to have gone out of my life and has since 2005 and I'm trying to get it back again.

Hi,

when I reached a dosage of 150mg it took only a few days, so in total 2 weeks. I'm currently on 150mg + 30mg Remeron and it's also great for anxiety, I feel better in several aspects. I think it's important to treat anxiety aggressively because it drains you on energy.

Kind regards,
Mattias

Hi!

I hope I can return in a few months, perhaps September. I have plenty of stuff to catch up with at home and I need to see if my mood improvement will last a little longer than a couple of months. I'm also working on reducing stressors, I have a habit of always trying to achieve perfection, which is something I have had problems with. I.e. if I can't do it 100% perfect, I won't do it at all or give up.

Kind regards,
Mattias
