Pristiq vs Savella

Posted by mommyron on May 2, 2010, at 20:22:18

They are both SNRI's and it seems they are both preferable to Effexor (which I was not crazy about). Does anyone know how they compare to each other? Thanks - Teresa

I've tried pristiq, I think it would be a good drug if I needed a lot more serotonin. The worst side effect I think was joint pain, so if you had that with effexor, you will probably have it with pristiq.

Pristiq is just the metabolite of effexor. Effexor turns into pristiq in your body so the effects will be similar. Some people say its better though, some say worse, trial and error unfortunately.

Milnacipran is a more evenly balanced SNRI, it increase serotonin and norepinephrine equally. This could be better or worse depending on what your body needs. I haven't taken milnacipran.

Seems some like pristiq and some like savella. Depends upon what your body needs. Sorry we're just all different. Phillipa

Savella is much stronger on NE. Pristiq is basically a glorified SSRI with hardly any effect on NE, and is almost disingenuis to call it an SNRI. I feel. All meds have unique things about them that we can't describe, put our fingers on, or explain. Much we don't know. We do not Savella is much stronger on NE than Pristiq is, but that's about it.

It all makes no difference anyway. Because there is absolutely no way to predict in advance via armchair quarterbacking which med would work and which wouldn't. Knowing something about the med's basic mechanism can help predict side effect intensity, but not whether it will work or not.
