Zyprexa's is calming...hard to descibe

Posted by rjlockhart04-08 on May 1, 2010, at 21:01:32

Out of all the medications I take...i look forward to it because it clears my head into thinking right, I feel not at all manic, or racing thoughts. It clears the mind, and its a very good medication but....the weight gain is a bad bad side effect...because it causes more gain even when you dont eat like a balloon effect or something.

How much do you take? Lowering the dosage may help.

Ask your doctor if you can try taking a moderated dose of Metformin while you are on Zyprexa.

If your doctor doesn't go for this, you could try a really good brand of Resveratrol. I use Revgenetics.

Green Tea and Sesamin are two other supplements that may help with weight loss.

Also, if you have the energy, get moderate to intense exercise 5 days a week and eat as healthy as you can. Don't exclude the good fats and fatty acids though. Two good healthy fats that also help with weight loss are Omega 3s and MCTs from coconut oil.

I find Zyprexa to be calming for me as well - calming in that it seems to control that type of anxiety that can send my head into tons of uncontrolled, fast paced thoughts. I take 5 mg. every night.

Yes, it has caused my weight to be a problem, because despite an excellent diet, I cannot lose weight (need to lose 40 lbs.). If not on Zyprexa, I think I would have lost the majority of the weight already.

But I choose the sanity it gives me OVER the weight issue. After YEARS, I have become fairly stable since adding it to my med regime about 6 months ago. Other meds I take are Celexa, Tegretol, Wellbutrin, Cytomel, Imovane, and the occasional Ativan.
