Can Lamictal / lamotrigine make you sing off-key?
Weird question, I know. But there are so many people on here I thought maybe someone has experienced this.
I love to go around and sing. During chores, in the car, the shower, etc. It's just fun, right?
I'm somewhat recently on Lamictal / lamotrigine and somewhat recently weaned off of Celexa / citalopram.
Now when I sing I'm a little flat and a little sharp. I can actually hear myself not hitting the notes right on.
It's like I have to work much harder to hit the right exact note.
Anyone? LOL! Funniest question ever.

Why are you taking lamictal? If not for severe bipolar depression, I would get off it.

Lamictal can produce ataxia, which is an incoordination of movement. Perhaps it produces and incoordination of the larynx muscles as well. I find that lithium affects me the same way as you described. I am on Lamictal, too.

I might try that, if I had a wife. I *am* the wife! :D
I have never been diagnosed with bipolar I. Not even bipolar II. Heck, I've been going to pdocs for 10 years now (it all started with post-partum) and nobody wants to "diagnose" you with anything.
Def. "mixed states," tho. An "agitated depression." Panic attacks. I don't know why the Lamictal works, but it has been really working.
Looking back, the Celexa would sort of precipitate panic attacks, and make me feel impulsive, and sometimes act impulsive. Altho I was on SSRI's for years since that's what they give you when you have depression symptoms.
Now I'm on a mood stabilizer only. I'll be darned if it isn't helping me a lot. I've recently weaned off the Celexa and still no serious return of symptoms. Sometimes I get anxiety and almost panic attacks, but I take some Ativan / lorazepam. The Lamictal seems to keep the panic attacks from grabbing ahold so to speak and latching on and taking off.
I'm slightly gaining weight on Lamical (or I should say def. not losing it) which is kinda discouraging; I thought going off the Celexa would see some weight loss. Not too freaked out about it because I'd rather have extra lbs. than have a panic attack *any* day.
But anyway, I am thankful (putting it mildly) to have found something (Lamictal) that works right now. I never was put on a traditional mood stabilizer such as Depakote, etc. Perhaps this was a fortuitous thing.
My main side effect of Lamictal are I've become a klutz and a ditz. I forget things but not too bad. 200mg/day.
:)

Too funny about being the wife. But I think let the singing go and continue on a med that your're doing so well on. Seriously you just take ativan what dose and lamictal and gave up ad's as they don't work for me. Anxiety main symptom and inability to sit still on xanax at night and low dos valium at night. singing I can't do anyway. How nice seriously to be able to sing I've always wished I could. Love Phillipa

Oh, heck ya. I'm not going off it. I just have to work a little harder to sing. And the only one hearing me sing is me. Well, and I annoy my kids. :)
"Seriously you just take ativan "The pills are 1mg, and I take them sort of irregularly, but approx. 1 to 2 per day. Oftentimes in halves.

I find it definitely tightens my throat and makes it hard to sing. Drives me nuts!
