Question for Bleauberry

Posted by morganator on March 22, 2010, at 23:33:14

Just curious, what is your opinion of Memantine? Should there be any reason for concern over the fact that it acts somewhat as a dopamine agonist?

I'm seriously considering trying Memantine for a few different reasons.

Or anyone else-shared experiences with Memantine

Anyone who has an educated opinion of Memantine is welcome to chime in.

Also, anyone with experience with Memantine?

I wish there was some way to predict, but there isn't. Personally I felt lousy on memantine. I think it did not help SLS either. A couple other random people found it good though, usually combined with ritalin to supposedly prevent tolerance.

Trying to armchair quarterback whether a dopamine agonist mechanism or glutamate mechanism is going to feel good or not is folly in my opinion. It just doesn't work that way.

It's maybe worth a try, but I could think of a handful of other things that would take higher priority over that. Just an opinion though. We all have em.

Could you please share these other options?

I tried provigil and it sent me into an agitated dysphoria.

I need to find a way to figure out how to feel and function like I did for 8 years on Zoloft alone. This sucks.

Also, my doc doesn't believe that I could be experiencing a difference between the brand and generic fluoxetine. He also said that in cases where people did not respond as well to generic, upping the dose by about 20 mg or so seemed to get them back to where they were on the brand. So now I'm taking 80 mg generic fluoxetine as opposed to 40(it's not like I felt that great when I was taking Symbyax 6/50), and have been for about 3 days.
