Clomipramine worth a shot? Different than SSRIs?

Posted by bearfan on March 21, 2010, at 20:36:38

I want a normal sexual drive again and still want relief from anxiety, depression and mild OCD. Can I expect this from Clomipramine? Will it possibly not have the sexual effect in lieu of dry mouth and/or sweatiness?

clomipramine is usually the same as (or worse) than ssris for sexual issues, but is superior to them in efficiacy for anxiety depression and ocd.
you may want to try imipramine which is as good but with far less sexual side effects. bethenochol can be used to treat TCA side effects also

Imipramine does tend to be a calming drug at higher doses, although I have to admit it's rather stimulating and even anxiety raising for me at only 25mg.

Imipramine is activating but calming at the same time, if that makes any sense. It is definitely considered the most reliable AD for panic disorder and anxiety by many Pdocs. It has been around for over 50 years and has been proven safe and effective in long term use.

TCAs like Clomipraminne can carry the same adverse sexual side effects.

Clomipramine is certainly an effective treatment for depression, anxiety and OCD. Sexual dysfunction, weight gain, sweating, dry mouth and drowsiness are very common side effects of clomipramine.

Interesting. I hadn't considered clomipramine for the treatment of GAD.

I believe that clomipramine can be useful in most anxiety disorders (OCD, GAD, panic disorder, social phobia, PTSD etc).
