I'm trying effexor again.. it worked in the past but then australia got rid of the normal tablets and now we only get the XR version.. it doesn't work as well for me because now the side effects last all day/night rather than tapering off enough that i can feel ok during the day. ( i have the same problem with all AD's.. they make me tired and very weak.. like dumbells are attatched to my limbs)
I was hoping effexor might work with it's short half life so i could take it well before and then after periods where i need to be doing anything. So if i open the capsules and crush up the little beads of effexor inside will it start being more like the normal stuff rather than a sustained release ?

I think you can't bite or chew into sustained release mix with food and swallow. Blueberry is good with that question. Phillipa

Yes, that should work. You'll know for sure after doing a little experimenting. About the only possible risk is you might find it doesn't destroy the time release as hoped, though I'm pretty sure you would destroy most of the time release. The possible benefit is that it works exactly as you wanted, which is I believe likely.
You would of course have to divide up the dose into multiple smaller doses spaced apart so that you don't get it all at once.
The only real way to find out is to try it. And then let us know how it goes so we all know.
This is the end of the thread.
