Nuerontin anti-depressant? sedative?

Posted by rjlockhart04-08 on March 9, 2010, at 15:55:36

I read somewhere that Nuerontin at higher doses mimics the tricrilic antidepressants, I mean when I take it [400-800mg] it has it's effect and I can't describe the feeling...it just has some antidepressant feelings, but does it also effect opieod receptors too?

Also, see there's all this great info about Nuerontin and not on Lyrica.

Is does sedate someone what but not like Xanax or anything.

Anyone?

At high doses neurontin becomes a different med. My body feels chilly which means there is a possibility that norepinephrine and or dopamine become involved. It seems to normalize my mood in a happy pro social way.

does Lyrica do the same? the max dose for Lyrica is 600mg...and the doses for nuerontin is unlimited really, we'll maybe 6000mg is the max

there's a caretaker that alot of people know about on this website that doesnt...she doesnt like giving me the full dose, and split's the 800mg in divded doses.

Lyrica cannot be split because all forms of the strenths are capsules.

Will Lyrica do the same at higher doses?

RJ,

Wish I could remember what dose my MIL took for nerve pain. Worked well for that, but her chief complaint was sedation. However, her mood was pretty pleasant.

Nuerontin has a well-mood effect for about 30min-1 hour then it just "goes out"

I learned this because I've been taking it...and really I think Lyrica is going to better yet it's a scheduel V. Lyrica boosts energy and I want to tell people what I researched about how it's better than Nuerontin, but it has it's own side effect's like "bluured vision" "mental dulling" it's like a pro-mood modified form of phenobarbital, the way it calms but it increases the mood, but does the same thing PB does in suppressing siezures and sedation. But it's nothing like phenobarbital in the real effect's, I don't know...the reason my grandmother took phenobarbital I rerember for her nerves and I rerember when I cried heavily she gave me one...i just went to sleep, didnt do my homework, and woke up the next day still tired. That's just a personal testimony, my grandmother died in 2008.

Hope this helps.
