I have been taking tramadol again for a couple of days, one day I took 50mg two times every six hours, and the other day I took the second 50mg about an hour and a half after taking the first. I also take 3600mg of gabapentine (Neurontin), 5mg of escitalopram (Lexapro), 25mg of amitriptyline and diazepam (Valium) PRN. I had some Valium in my blood from previous use, but not much.
The first day, I had a reasonably good experience. Tramadol ate my depression away in no time. But it also threw my world upside down and made me rethink my life. That brought up some heavy to deal with emotions. It was constructive though. Further I noticed that I was more sociable, more talkative etc. There was some brain fog. In the second half of the day, I had to do some administration, and I got an email for a possible job application. I got pretty nervous and stayed uptight for the rest of the day. I had taken a cup of coffee and suspect that it doesn't mix well wit h tramadol.
Evening was alright. I had some trouble falling asleep.
The second day, I felt a bit groggy. I had a few cups of coffee and started having a terrible headache. I took 50mg of tramadol. Headache didn't leave. I took another 50mg. headache still didn't leave. I was high now, and it was enjoyable while my daughter was asleep and I was busy writing some cards - I was rther inspired and creative - but when I had to take care of my daughter, the nervousness crept back in, and I also started nodding away while doing the dishes or sitting on the couch, something that wasn't enjoyable at all. I felt wired up.
Now, several days later, I still have a bad hangover from just these two days on tramadol. I wonder if I would have fared better if I had religiously taken 50mg of tramadol every morning and wouldn't drink any coffee.
Although this drug has its good sides, like providing mild euphoria, inspiration and motivation, the downsides seem to be, for me that is, getting too wired up and having a hangover if I don't take the drug again and take it fast.
Oddly enough, although may experiences weren't all that fantastic, I have still felt the urge to take the drug again over the last days. I think this drug has high addiction potential. To me, it seems way too brutal and unpredictable to start taking daily and long-term. It also seems to exacerbate my chronic jaw pain, perhaps throught its effects of the immune system (stimulating, I think).
Perhaps I should try it again sometime without any other meds.

My pdoc suggested tramadol for me but wouldn't prescribe it said to find a pain clinic and none use it just physical theraphy for back pain. As percocet or vicodin eliminate fear and dysthymia I guess from me. Do you find it similar to percocet? Phillipa

It sounds like you might be more interested in trying different drugs and experimenting rather than getting better. I mean stopping all your drugs just to see what tramadol feels like, doesn't seem like your goal is remission, but rather experimentation.

Clever observation. It's true, I would have serious trouble leaving experimenting with meds alone if I gained remission..
Should think this one over..
