Brain zaps

Posted by Justherself54 on February 12, 2010, at 14:29:39

I know this should be in the withdrawal board..my bad..but just wanted to know if it's possible to still get brain zaps after being off Lexapro for a month, or if it's just a sign that my cup of anxiety runneth over. I'm currently not on an AD, but that's another story.

Justy did you taper? And didn't have them before? I don't think so. Does it feel wierd when you move your eyes or head? That's what it felt like to me like almost losing consciousness for a milli second? Any ad now? What's the plan? So sorry. Phillipa

I think since these meds are so commonly prescribed and taken for granted, we forget how very powerful they are, and how the human brain is their target. These are serious drugs. No they don't get us high like LSD or something, but in their own way are just as potent at what they do.

Can you still get brain zaps a month after stopping lexapro? Well, if this sample of 1 is any guide, then yes. Except in my case it was zoloft at about 6 weeks. Paxil was about 3 weeks. I went straight to prozac from lexapro so never had the brain zap thing there.

Others here have reported a wide array of post-discontinuation bizarre symptoms that lasted as long as months instead of weeks. Including me.

Powerful drugs there are. I say to all who will listen, these drugs have real potential for improving lives, but have equal potential for worsening lives, and either way are very potent substances. To be having post-withdrawals syndroms a month after the fact is something I pretty much see as not unusual.

As for the brain zaps specifically, mine from zoloft finally went away in the 6-7 week period. By that time I was getting scared they would never go away. But they did.

It must have been something else as the med doesn't last that long the halflife isn't that long nor the whole life in my opinion. Phillipa

I'm thinking it probably is still from the withdrawal. I had four weeks of brain zaps after tapering off nardil..these are quite mild in comparison..I also feel my balance is off..I'm not in the pits yet..but not close to remission, out of med options..so just hanging on hoping spring might bring me a little relief..not a good place to be..but I have been worse..sigh..

Your're saying your're med free???? No wonder. Out of options? They say you can never be out of options. I'm so sorry. Love Phillipa

i got brain zaps real bad when i tried mirtazapine, i have had them before though when not on ad's, think it was stress-induced norepinephrine/epinephrine release that caused it?
