I've been taking Nardil for over 10 years for social phobia and depression and was just told by my doctor that I may have hypothyroidism. He prescribed Synthroid.
Could Nardil be the cause of the thyroid issue?

It's more likely that the hypothyroidism is the cause of your depression I would say. Many people with depression don't know they have an out-of-whack thyroid and can fully recover once it's in range. Be excited!

What is your thyroid level? It's usually measured with TSH? I'm curious as I sort of am hypothyroid, not based on standard levels but on my history of depression. I am also on Nardil and Synthroid for about 2 years now. We have alot in common.

I have a TSH level of 6.3. I've been on Synthroid (the generic) for about a month with no obvious results. I am due for another TSH test in a week...

I think it takes about eight weeks to adjust. And maybe you will need a higher dose of synthroid. Mine is changed all the time. I get Mary Shoman's newsletter on thyroid and she had an article on how during the winter some need more thyroid med. Phillipa
