Hello. I hope this post reaches out and saves someone's life.
Recently, there has been a lot of talk about the possibility of the fatal serotonin syndrome.
SSRI leaflets contain information about a number of drugs/substances which can cause it when used together with the SSRI, but they have not put one more - Flagyl / Metronidazole.
Metronidazole is used for anaerobic infections / mainly STD's.
Metronidazole significantly increases serotonin levels and combined with a SSRI antidepressant, causes serotonin syndrome.

I took flagyl with luvox and benzos for diverticulitis and one other antibiotic also don't remember name. What happened what meds were you on? Does the list never end? Phillipa

Hello. I was on Lexapro 10mg and Klonopin 0.25mg at the time I had to take Flagyl (Metronidazole).
There is info just coming out on PubMed about this topic.

Because as you probably know, taking more than one serotonin enhancing substance can lead to serotonin syndrome.
In my case - it did, alto "mildly".

Although very low doses was on 2.5mg paxil & 12.5mg of luvox together. Phillipa
