Willey- I knew you mentioned this was on your list-- did you try it? Did anyone else try it? I think it's what I'm about to start if we can't find anyone to prescribe the Cytomel/T3 and I would love to hear some good things about it! (or to also hear if it didn't work for you)

peanut, was briefly mentioned to me as an add-on then withdrawn. Doc said doses adequate for depression usually cause side-effects that cause discontinuation. However, we deal w/ two different beasts.
I read some promising reviews on askapatient.com. Could work.... Was a dose recommended?

You would seriously think I'm asking for crack Philipa. No, my thyroids not normal- I'm hypothyroid and treated with T4, but the T3 would make that better not worse. It's just that there;s another type of doc involved that complicated things. This is just too annoying for words...

Yess annoying, but more so slows your treatment down.I have been hurt enough by docs, where i tried to call them and they dident return calls etc.
I refuse to put my the relief of mental anguish in the hands of these people soley.
Witht that said i do have mirapex, however i am holding off as i am still adjusting my cocktail now with campral addded.
Unlesss you have a willing doc,i would not expect a doc to add half the things people would like to try,if i die trying to save myself, then so be it but im not gonna sit around and suffer. To ask that from someone is in itself absurd.

I think my doc is happy to prescribe the Mirapex. This T3/Cytomel thing is ridiculous but the only way I can get it is by prescription. There's no market for it and thus no availability in foreign pharmacies. So I really have no choice but to keep searching for a doc who will do it. UGH!

I have indeed tried Mirapex. It was in combination with other therapies including 50mg of nortriptyline and a very small amount of citalopram (less than 10mg) I was actually on it for quite awhile - almost one year - and it was very interesting. At times it to provide the drive and interest that has been missing for so many years and there were also flashes of joy in there. That has been missing for years and years.y It also seemed to produce a robust anxiolytic effect. Eventually though, I started experiencing swollen aching joints, bouts of rage, anger and irritability, and attacks of severe drowsiness. It seemed to be causing weight gain as well. I don't know how much of it was due to the pramipexole, but evidence suggests much of it was. Then of course, tapering off was not fun at all. Like all drugs for me, small amounts produced rather profound changes and dosage changes almost always induced instability. I never got up to more than 3/8mg.

Bob, I'm curious. What dose was the abilify? I experienced rapid weight gain, but not the other symptoms. Maybe abilify somehow worked against the dopamine? Impulsivity is attributed to mirapex, but had not heard of the somatic symptoms you endured. Do you have anything on board that addresses the benefits you experienced on mirapex?

Mirapex did heighten impulsivity slightly, but I was only at 3/8 mg, so it wasn't extreme. I tapered off the Mirapex to see if it was the source of some of the somatic symptoms, but the jury is still out on that. I don't have anything on board right now that has similar benefits to the Mirapex. Wish I did.

Peanut that is ridiculous as even my conservative endo let me have T3 to try with synthroid. At the time it just made me more anxious. My endo has nothing to do with my pdoc. Here they all have specialities and stick to them. Love Phillipa

Bob, I did confuse the two meds. My apologies. Seems the search for the dopamine piece to depression and other conditions is an arduous, frustrating one. I've considered mirapex myself; currently it's off my short list....but I'm still interested. I suppose requip (sp?) would be similar? Best to you uncovering the trigger for those somatic symptoms and finding an equivalent treatment--thanks for the response.

Bob-- how long were you on Mirapex before you felt any results? What were your side effects that caused discontinuation? Did it totally eliminate your depression or just make it better. Thanks for the info.
