Effexor 150mg, Remeron 30mg, Lamictal 100mg and things are going great. My motivation has increased 10 fold, anxiety is a non-issue and my overall mood has improved. I actually look forward to leaving the house and interacting out in the public. Just thought I'd share something positive for those that feel there is no hope. I was there for months and considering ECT. Keep on fighting, you will find the right combo.

That's wonderful news! I am excited for you.Doesn't it feel almost surreal? The difference is cosmic.
How do you account for the improvement?

> - ScottHi Scott, I wish there was an obvious explanation for the improvement. This is week 5 of Remeron and I ditched the Zoloft 12 days ago for Effexor. I've always believed Remeron has the ability to supercharge an A/D when the right combo is used.
I was taking Effexor/Remeron 4 years ago and seemed to slowly regress. My p/doc at the time, decided to replace the Effexor with Zoloft. Had I just added Lamictal back then, perhaps I would have gained years of improved health.
Such a hit and miss this mixing of meds is. I hope you experience a positive result with your upcoming Effexor trial.
Take care,
Rick

Very cool. It was just very recently I said some negative words about the "California Rocketfuel"...something about it not being that great or else it would be more common...and you have proved that in your case it is doing what it should. Sometimes it is good to be wrong, and I am glad in this case I am wrong! :-)

I'm not sure how many patients or doctors are actually inclined to try combinations like this. If they do, it's probably only after trying many other things.

Bob I remember a time when remeron and effexor were a very popular med combo on here at least. Don't they use it anymore? Just curious. Thanks Phillipa

Phillipa-
I have no idea. I'm not speaking from experience, merely conjecture. Maybe many more than I understand have tried it. My personal knowledge of it comes mainly from the STAR*D study and posts on this board.
Maybe California Rocket Fuel is a fad that's come and gone, but as is always the case it seems to work well for some.

Not sure why?The two drugs have enough differances to belieaf it could work.Dont know the exact pharmoclogy but i know the sero receptors invovled are adifferent and unlike a moai and perhaps remeron i dont see why any precaution would be needed?I always thought if i had to resort with no choice to ssris that i would use this combo as it has been in threads over many segments of time.

>I've been seeing the same p/doc for 16 years so "getting lamictal" was not a problem. Actually, my combo is pretty benign considering the way many GP's and p/docs hand out atypicals and other piled on combinations.

Hi,
Whilst I am pleased for you, I don't understand. you said later that it takes 4 to 6 weeks for you to get the full effect of the Remeron and yet you are only at day 11. Are you expecting to feel even better after 4 weeks than you do now?

> DeniseI am now on day 16 of Effexor 150mg. "I started taking Remeron 4 weeks prior to starting Effexor, while I was on Zoloft". I stopped taking Zoloft Dec. 17 and started Effexor Dec. 18.... a straight cross-over, no weaning from one to another. I have been taking Remeron for years but stopped it several months back when I gave Zyprexa a try. I gained quite a bit of weight on Zyprexa and it made me feel emotionless!! I am doing great and continue to remain positive, I love this new combination. :-)

Hi Rocket - glad things are working for you. I may be headed toward similar territory as well.
May I ask what your diagnosis is?
