Normal for Lamictal to make you tired and sleepy?

Posted by Girlnterrupted78 on January 17, 2010, at 1:49:48

I've been on Parnate 80mgs and Adderall 15mgs for several months now.

While the initial result was extremely good, it suddenly began to lose its strength.

It's still helping quite a bit with depression and social interactions, but not as much as when it first started working.

Anyway, from then my doctor has been adding other meds to see if we can get it to work again.

We tried Nortriptyline, and I didn't feel it was doing much except countering the energy I was getting from Parnate-Adderall, but no positive effects so I discontinued. I also went a bit too fast to a very high dose, so I'm not sure if that had something to do with it. But as of now, I'm not taking it anymore.

Now my doctor added Lamictal. I've been taking it for 10 days now and once again, I don't feel any benefits, but I do feel a lot more tired, with much less energy, more lethargic; I'm accomplishing less, and the feeling of lethargy and sleepiness has a bad impact on my mood, so I'm not too energetic or optimistic at work, which will end up hurting me.

I don't know how much time to give Lamictal to figure whether this is just an initial reaction or if I will always feel this way while on it. For those who have tried it, is this normal? Or just an initial reaction to it? If this is how I will feel on it, I would definitely not stay on it. Parnate was giving me great energy and now I'm tired and sleepy all the time.

If anyone knows whether this is normal or what the problem might be, I'd appreciate any info.

Thank you

Low dose at the time didn't tire me is it generic or brand as a discussion recently that name brand is better I think? Could be wrong. I sure hope it works for you. Love Phillipa

Hi,

I am currently taking lamictal and have the same response. It was hard for me to even get up to 50mg so I am trying to go more slowly. I think my other meds may be making the sleepiness worse as they all interact and increase the side effects. It's hard to tell what's doing what and if it's just one drug or the combination.
So yes, I am experiencing the same thing as you. I don't know if it goes away. I wish I could just take lamictal alone and see what that did.

Sorry I don't have any answers!

Roslynn

I don't know about the Lamictal, but I find it interesting that we both experienced the same thing with Parnate at the same time. I am now on 100 mg from 80 mg and praying that it will help with the depression that has crept in at 80 mg. I felt so good in November and December and then BAM!

I hope the tiredness goes away with the lamictal. I guess it's possible for any med to make you tired. I've never heard of lamictal being stimulating.
