SPECT scan results tommorow

Posted by rjlockhart04-08 on January 13, 2010, at 17:54:31

I'm going into my doctor for a anyasis of the brain results.

I would like to see what my own brain looks like, and where it doesnt function properly. And if a stimulant is needed.

Interesting. I think I've seen SPECT mentioned before, but don't know much about it. What kind of doc ordered it and what are you looking for?

I can't post them online yet because I have to plug in my scanner and I have to have the softwere to do that, I don't know where it is right now.

The results where "inactive frountal loble" which means that there not much nueron activity going on where your suppost to feel emotion, maybe that's why I'm depressed alot. And also Attention was off. There was some "decay" on the top of the brain, which is from inactivity of, or from past abuse with alcohol and stimulants. The doctor told me, get off Zyprexa and go on Lamitial, and he did recommened Vyvanse 30mg, to start out.

Alot of what you see...there's alot of inactivty and inattention is resulted..i'll have to get the sheet and read it down, but that explains alot of symptoms.

Now, I'll just have to go diggin for the softwhere and find somehow to put the results, if I can here.

Hi rjlockhart,

Do you feel it was a worthwhile test for you? What do you think of the results?

Did you get the scan as part of a research study? (Please excuse me if you have mentioned this in a previous post.)

Hopefully these scans will become much more specific in the future.
I would love to have physical evidence of my disability in order to keep doubters at bay.

Yeah. Even some mental health professionals still need convincing.

Have the results upset you or confirmed what you already suspected?

It's around 3500 dollers, insurace covered some of it, yet...I think the best is a PET scan and I wished I had one...it's more detail than a spect.

The spect kinda only show "color's" of the bloodflow of the brain. You take a test that requires concentration then you have a scan, then another scan with any concentration. There wasnt any diffrence in between concentration with the test.

It shows where "active" and "inactive" levels are. But still the best I think is a PET scan because it's more detail.

My doctor is really "doubtful" I needed a stimulant, so i was referred to a test, and man did it have more evidence than reality could show itself...all the calls that I made in help..saying "I just cannot concentrate, I don't know what to do"

The test had a Attention "test"...i got a 99% that I have ADD...that was all the test results showed that there are "inactive" regions that are not "active", and alot of results showed more like having "dark thoughts" because when these regions are not active you have a tendecy to have "down" that can be "angry" or "depressed" thoughts.

Nothing came up for being Bi-polar, or anything and I was expecting that, this thing took a "3-d" image...and it just said "ADHD" with some other regions that where not functioning that is related to asperbger's disorder which a mild form autism.

thanks for the response

SPECT scan is good, it's not as detailed as a PET scan, but it show's the color's around regions of the brain and it show's deteration from people who have used drugs [in my case, that was excessive consumption of alcohol with stimulants]

Really I don't see why abusing alcohol is that bad, because people I know that are in collage drink like everyday they get off work, alcohol is the "trend" to do. It's like if you don't drink...what's wrong? like people in the past used to smoke because it was cool now...it's like "you smoke?? go outside..." I mean really! it's out of style but it may come back

thanks and scott I hope you can get a scan too to see what's going on.

Try to get a PET scan.

Well, I've been diagnosed with it one session with a psychiatrist. Then other doctor's didnt think so.

What's the scan showed was at the back of brain was some thing's "missing" or maybe they deterated for some reason...but it's responsible for "motor" function and some of it's "gone". I know that I have had trouble with things most of my life, and those results showed why...I just want to get a scanner and put it up, but I don't know where the softwhere is...take me forever to find it.

I don't think I can explain it very well, but that's what's the deal is...regions are kinda "smaller" than normal. And that shows why aspberger's is prominate.

Yet I don't feel I have asperger's...it's like you don't know you have high blood pressure until it starts to be a problem that effect's everyday life.

Thanks! really appriciate the response...my assumption, yes I have a mild form of aspberger's and i'm not proud of it.

There is nothing to be ashamed of in having Aspergers. It's just another symptom you will have to learn to control. And it explains a lot too. I always thought you had aspergers by the way you wrote. Are there any meds you can take for it?

Will your mum let you take the Vyvanse?

I am glad you had the scan done.

I had to sit down and talk with her, she does not like talking about stimulants because of the past and there like burden to talk about. Yet I told her and the doctor, "stimulants just improve things I lack, I know I've abused them, but i'm asking for understanding"

I think she's going to ok it at this point because the scan itself showed that there needs to be stimulation in some regions of the brain. It's odd it didnt pic up manic depressive, there was no sign of it. Here actaully I have the result's here...let me get em'
the result's arnt that detailed, but it does show a 3-d image of nueroactivty...[heat].
The Cerebellum is a bit small, hold on here's the diagonses:
ADD combined
Major Depressive Disorder
Chronic Anxiety
Aspberger's syndrome

This is from the scan results and the doctor's anaylsis he wrote.

I think there's been times where I've been hypomanic and wrote things here on babble that where "a bit off"...and that was a diffrent time period.

Anyway's thanks for the response

I agree with FB. It sounds like it was one of the first times that your mother actually listened to you. A new chapter perhaps?

I hope you get the meds you need so that you can function and not be in emotional pain all the time.

I'm curious, did the scan show if you are bipolar or not?

Having this scan is the best thing you could have done!

Thanks. That's a good idea. Actually, I had a PET scan in 1992. I was one of the first ones to get one at the NIH. It showed that most of my cerebral cortex was inactive - it was all blue. The only hot spots were located in the visual cortex, which is always turned on normally.

that's good...some sections of my brain are not "developed" I think, but the SPECT scan isnt real detailed in that area...

Did you have radioactive fluid injected? SPECT scans do that but I don't know about PET scans.

Really what they could do to improve imaging is to actually send microtransmitters thought the nuerotransmitters so it would give a "video recording" of what going on.

Take care scott

Yes (fluorodeoxyglucose). They had to inject it into the radial artery of the wrist. It hurt like hell.

That's an interesting idea. Perhaps nanotechnology will produce something like that one day - Fantastic Voyage.

Not all of us are old enough to remember "Fantastic Voyage".
