Invega and Chloral Hydrate

Posted by Justherself54 on January 11, 2010, at 15:56:45

My pdoc wants me off my antidpressant ASAP and on to Invega. Has anyone had experience with it. Also, my insomnia is out of control..I have become resistant to zopiclone..I've tried various medications for sleep..so he wants me to try chloral hydrate (not sure if I'm spelling it correctly). Anyone have experience with it?

I hate, hate, hate, starting new meds. I've become a recluse playing Hearts for hours on the 'puter.

I'm also not real thrilled to have to go off another SSRI and deal with all the withdrawal crap..stop the world and let me off!

Here's some sleep aids you may not have tried:

Gabitril
Cyproheptadine
Prazosin
Clonidine
Hydroxyzine

Invega is very mellowing antipsychotic.

Thanks for responding. I'm just going to be taking the chloral hydrate for a short period. Hopefully the zopiclone will work again after a break. I think at this point we're just brainstorming anything that may help. I also have fibromyalgia which wreaks havoc on sleep.

From what I've read Invega is similar to Risperidone, which concerns me, as I couldn't tolerate it. My pdoc is giving me a sample pack to try. Do you know how close it is to Risperidone? Seroquel is the only other atypical I've been on, and at a low dose for sleep. The only problem is, it makes me crave sweets to the point where I'll get out of bed, totally zoned out, and raid the kitchen.

I'm so exhausted that tonight I'm taking two zopiclone, extra clonazapam and a T3, and if I don't fall asleep I'm getting up and taking a seroquel, then eat my face off, but maybe I'll finally get relief.

What do you do when you've run out of AD options? I don't know what to do. My future scares me.

>Do you know how close it is to Risperidone?

Invega/Paliperidone is the active metabolite of Risperidone. paliperidone is 9-hydroxyrisperidone, i.e. risperidone with an extra hydroxyl group

If you didn't tolerate Risperidone, you may have trouble with Invega.

Have you been through all the tricyclics?

Don't be scared, there are other options such as ECT or medications such as Namenda and Mirapex.
