Switching from Zoloft to Prozac

Posted by morganator on January 10, 2010, at 16:39:49

I'm thinking of switching from Zoloft to Prozac. I have some success with Prozac in the past. Hast anyone successfully made this switch? If so, what was your experience like?

Also, anyone know low dose of Prozac plus a low dose of Nortriptyline is a good safe combo?

Prozac takes some time to work, about 6 weeks at the fullest, I do think it's better than Zoloft. When it started working, I was on 20mg...and It lifted depression.

just wanted to throw in...Zoloft is dopamine reptake inhibitor at high doses....that means it does something similar that Ritilin does but that's only at 250mg-higher.

I think you will like the switch because Prozac provides energy.

Thanks for your input.

Actually I had been on Zoloft for 7 years and felt plenty of energy on it. I also slept great. It has been just recently after trying it again that I have not reacted to it as well. I am also on Depakote as I have fairly recently been diagnosed with bipolar. It has been 2 years of hell trying medications and dealing with severe depression and anxiety since my major mixed manic episode December 2007 and January 2008.

So my doctor suggested Symbyax, starting at 25 mg Prozac and 3 mg Zyprexa. I am not at all happy with the Zyprexa part as I just stopped taking Zyprexa under his supervision 2 months ago. Zyprexa combined with anything has never been very good for me. Who knows, maybe this will be different. He did say that I can ween down and get off Zyprexa and just stay on Prozac in a few months if I am doing really well. I think I I'm not doing that great I should get off Zyprexa again after a few months anyway.

He is keeping me on 100 mg Zoloft for the first few weeks, which I thought was a bit strange. I asked him if I should be concerned and he said that he had no problem with it. This is day two so we shall see.

This is the end of the thread.
