Seems from what I read it's kind of in the middle of stimulating and sedating? Phillipa

There have been a couple long threads about this drug recently. The first you can find at
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/20080617/msgs/835336.html.
and the second at http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/20091227/msgs/931139.html. If you search the archives for Tianeptine or Stablon you should be able to find more too. I hope that's helpful.

I was on Stablon for a year, here's what I posted in another thread: http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/20100103/msgs/932306.html
------
The Stablon worked very well, with no side effects that I can recall, except for one: it affected my sleep patterns in a very weird way, lots of intense/lucid dreams... it wasn't unpleasant, just strange.Anyway, it was particularly effective for anxiety, it allowed me to lower my benzo intake drastically. I really liked it because it didn't blunt my emotions at all (unlike most of the SSRIs I've tried).
I took the Stablon for about a year, at which point my doc (and I) decided that my depression was in remission and took me off it... I was med-free for another year, only taking a low dose of Klonopin.
As a side note, IME Stablon worked well for the mild/moderate depression and anxiety I was experiencing at that time. When I crashed big time a year later, Stablon didn't do much, so I had to move on to something else.
------
I looked through my old med journal, here some additional info from my experience with this med:* I had some GI disturbances for a while, but resolved very quickly (I'd forgotten about this)
* I noticed that it had definitely kicked in during the second month of treatment - unlike most meds, Stablon feels like it's silently working in the background.
* Mixed with alcohol once, felt extremely sick - VERY bad idea.
* It was difficult to keep track of the doses, until I worked out a system that ensured I wouldn't forget to take the pills (3 "tic tacs"/day).
* As I mentioned before, it really seemed to affect my sleep architecture - despite the crazy dreams, I felt rested, though.
* The lack of side effects made me wonder if it was working at all - seems like I'm so used to being bogged down with pesky side effects that the negligible Stablon s/e made me skeptical - gotta love the irony!
* No withdrawal symptoms following quick discontinuation.
It was a good experience at the time, it definitely helped. Now I'm wondering how it would compare to the host of meds I've been on since then...
Anyway, I hope this helps :)

i think i'd like to try stablon next (which makes it effectively the end-of-the-AD road for me, bar the atypical AP's and mood stabilizers). does it have any (positive) effect as far as brain-foggy symptoms go?

Neutral, I think.

For me it has had positive effect on cognitive function. I am more articulate on it. Friends and family have have commented on the difference in me since I started taking it. I used to do public speaking, but years of depression and anxiety had pretty much crippled me in that respect. Now I'm starting to be able to speak extemporaneously again.
This is the end of the thread.
