I have taken phentermine for 5 years. It has greatly reduced depression, made me think clearer, my blood pressure actually lowered to normal, and I lost a good deal of weight gained from other meds.
For a long while, there were articles on the web stating that phentermine could improve the efficacy of an SSRI. This was also true.
Now there are no positive articles about it and they mostly list side effects exactly the same as if someone took ADHD medication. Since I also have ADHD, I believe I have a paradoxical effect since it reduces anxiety as well. Two cardiologists told me that as long as my blood pressure was fine, and my cholesterol, it should be fine. Recently 2 psychiatrists told me that they would not prescribe it (I have moved) and one stated the old Fen-phen issue. Phentermine has always been safe, and was not removed from the market and it is milder than stronger D-amphetamines like AdderallXR and Vyvanse. How is it that these doctors will prescribe stronger meds when phentermine works fine. I take it with a small dosage of Vyvanse and I sleep well and feel great. I have had to go back to my doctor of 13 years (farther commute) because these doctors never heard of its' use. I read many articles about it and SSRIs that were favorable 2 years ago. Now they warn of "serotonin syndrome" and negative things. The warnings on the pharmacy printout are IDENTICAL to Vyvanse and AdderallXR?
What caused this disappearance of supporting information? It was also being used for hypothyroidism and treatment of cocaine cravings in rehab. My sister in law is a drug counselor and she is aware of it. These doctors I saw were not. My doctor is well aware of it and she's up on everything.

Hello Hallen!
Welcome to Psycho-Babble. I don't know why there isn't more supporting information about Phentermine. I don't really know that much about it, just that it can be used for weight loss. I hope someone who knows more will reply.
