So I took my first 10 mg dose of parnate yesterday and two 10 mg today.I'm supposed to go up to 30 mg, but think I'm going to need higher. So far nothing and I'm not expecting anything yet. I still just want to lay around and sleep the day away. I'm willing to wait, but can someone tell me how long I should give it to work? I'm taking the generic I'm wondering if I should be taking the name brand?

For me, the brand name and the generic preparations produce the same results. You probably will need more than 30mg if your depression is moderate to severe. However, I don't recommend that you accelerate your dosage increases without conferring with your doctor first. There is a lag time of about a week between making a dosage adjustment and the establishment the of maximal MAO inhibition at that dosage. It might take an additional 2 weeks before an improvement emerges. It is generally a good idea to wait three weeks before evaluating the effectiveness of any one dosage and making subsequent adjustments. The range of effective dosages is usually between 40-80mg.
Good luck.

Well here is a perfect example of how various people differ.Scott finds both generic and brand the same, while i personaly had to switch,i could not even tolerate generic, and had to go through a lot of trouble with doc, insurance, etc to keep brand.
Second as for the dose and effect,id like to use maxime as a example, when he or she first when on parnate they were bed ridden, with the continued emotional support of this board they made it to a higher dose and some time on the med,we then seen a 360 in effect, and perhaps not fixed,i believe maxime is no longer bed ridden.

For me, 30mg was enough. I started immediately on 30mg (didn't titrate up), but then I was in a hospital where they could monitor my BP and all. I felt better within days. But that's me. Other people have had different experiences on parnate.

I didn't feel anything until I hit 40 mg. That's when I noticed a change.
I know that the generic should be the same as the name brand, but I have a personal friend who swears that the generic was not as good as the name brand she had been taking for years. Something to thing about.
Good luck to you! I hope Parnate is your med!

Some people benefit from the amphetamine-like properties of Parnate almost immediately. Had you tried amphetamine previously?
